NEWTON -- Effingham claimed the seventh-grade match while Jasper County was a winner in eighth-grade play as two junior high volleyball teams met Monday.

Jasper County claimed the opening set of the seventh-grade match 25-14 but Effingham came back to win the match, 25-14, 25-21.

Keagyn Koenig led the Mustangs in kills with eight. Alaina Miller had 12 assists and three aces. Emery Spicer led in digs with nine.

Jasper County was led by Dhom with five aces, Jones with four kills, Reich with two assists, Flowers with nine digs and Ghast with two blocks.

In eighth-grade play, the Mustangs won the opener 25-17 but Jasper County came back with 25-17, 25-14 counts for the match.

Effingham was led by Camdyn Burgholzer with eight kills, Maci Hayes with 17 assists, Gieah Schlanser with five aces and Tessa Raddatz with 11 digs.

Jasper County was led by Shull and Warfel with two aces each. Shull, Ochs, Warfel and Michl had five kills each. Shull led in assists with eight. Probst had 13 digs.

At Newton

At St. Anthony

Effingham St. Anthony's seventh-grade team defeated Windsor in Monday play.

The Bullpups won 25-12, 25-16. Alexas Wagner led in points with 18.

 

At Sandoval

South Central picked up two victories over Sandoval in Monday action.

South Central won the seventh-grade match, 25-5, 25-5 and is now 9-1 on the season.

In eighth-grade play, South Central was a 25-11, 25-10 winner and improved to 9-4.

Pink Out Night will be held Tuesday, February 21 at South Central MIddle School against Iuka Junior High School.

The C game begins at 3:45 p.m. with the seventh- and eighth-grade matches following at 4:30.

Activities and fundraisers are silent auction, bake sale, pink popcorn, thirsty heifer, serving game, game ball auction and pie in the face.

Proceeds will go to Six Lemons and Fear Nothing cancer organizations.

At Cowden

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City won both the seventh- and eighth-grade matches over Dieterich Monday.

CHBC won the opening set in seventh-grade play, 25-15. Dieterich took the second set, 25-20. CHBC then won the match, 25-13.

Jayla Arnett led in points with 12, had one assist, two kills and one dig. Allison Shields and Ethel Stuckemeyer had one assist each. Carissa Wakefield had two kills. Adilynn Nowitzke had one dig.

"We are still trying to figure out what happens in game two with these girls," said CHBC Coach Angela Jefferies. "They come out strong, then run into problems during their second game. However, they were once again able to bring home the win."

In eighth-grade play, CHBC won 25-22, 25-17.

Lena Bowlin led in points with 11 and kills with four. Haley Doty led in assists with two. Alaynnah Rauch had three blocks. Gabby Wakefield led in digs with two.

"These girls looked good and commnicated well," said Coach Jefferies. "Dieterich had some excellent players and outs were able to adjust."

At Cowden

At Louisville

North Clay (Louisville) beat Clay City Monday.

North Clay won the seventh-grade match, 25-13, 25-19 and captured the eighth-grade contest, 27-25 and 25-20.

North Clay is now 2-8 overall.
