Trinity Lutheran won the championship of the St. Anthony Eighth-Grade Tournament. Trinity Lutheran won the championship of the St. Anthony Eighth-Grade Volleyball Tournament Saturday.

In opening round play on the West Court, Heritage defeated St. Anthony, 25-22, 15-25, 15-9; Sigel St. Michael won over Oblong, 25-10, 25-10 and Heritage, 25-20, 25-12; Oblong downed St. Anthony, 25-23, 25-16 and then defeated Heritage, 25-15, 25-18 and  St. Michael beat St. Anthony, 25-10, 25-15.

On the East Court, North Clay won over Red Hill (Bridgeport), 25-9, 25-16; Trinity Lutheran downed Holy Cross, 25-6, 25-8 and beat Red Hill, 25-5, 25-8; Holy Cross defeated North Clay, 25-21, 13-25, 16-14 and finished with a victory over Red Hill, 25-16, 25-8.Trinity Lutheran came out a winner over North Clay.

In the championship match,Trinity Lutheran was a winner over St. Michael. Third place went to Oblong over Holy Cross.

Heritage won the fifth place match over North Clay and St. Anthony downed Red Hill 25-9, 25-14 for seventh place.

 

Edwards County Tournament

Effingham captured the championship of the eighth-grade tournament while taking second place in the seventh-grade tourney Saturday.

The Mustangs defeated Grayville 25-15, 25-17; St. Thomas, 25-22, 20-25, 25-20 and Mount Carmel, 24-26, 25-14, 25-20 for the title.

In the seventh-grade tourney, Effingham downed Grayville 25-19, 25-16; won over Albion 25-15, 25-12 and then fell in the championship match to St. Thomas, 25-21, 25-21.

Vandalia Tournament

South Central captured the championship of the Vandalia Eighth-Grade Tournament Saturday.

South Central beat Vandalia, 25-20, 25-16; won over St. Elmo-Brownstown 25-22, 24-26, 15-10 and then claimed the championship over Litchfield, 20-25, 25-22, 16-14.

Sotuh Central is now 8-4 on the season.

 

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis defeated St. Elmo/Brownstown in both seventh- and eighth-grade play Friday.

The Shoes won the seventh-grade match, 25-14, 25-18 to improve to 7-4 on the season.

Leading the Shoes were Cecelia Donsbach with four aces and nine assists and Alison Niemerg with four kills, four aces and nine digs.

In the eighth-grade contest, T-town won 25-18, 25-10 and is now 8-3 on the season.

The Shoes were led by Gabby Taylor with one block, five kills and nine aces, Brittany Springler with nine assists and Marie Zumbahlen with 18 digs.

St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Madi Miller with three kills and three aces; Danika Ramsey with three kills and Audria Logue and Mya Barker with three assists each.

At Teutopolis

Seventh-Grade Match

At Strasburg

Stewardson-Strasburg defeated Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City in both seventh- and eighth-grade matches Saturday.

Stew-Stras won the seventh-grade match, 25-6, 25-16. Leading the way were Edie Wittenberg with six aces, 3 assists, 3 kills and one block and Karly Wetherell and Jackie Vonderheide with two digs each.

In the eighth-grade matchup, Stew-Stras won 25-15, 25-19.

Kendra Hayes had nine aces, two digs, three assists and three kills while Claire VonBehrens had two digs and three assists.

Both teams are now 9-1 on the season.

In the Pana Seventh-Grade Tournament Saturday, Stew-Stras claimed second place. The team went 2-1, losng the championship match against Pana.

At Strasburg
