NEWTON -- Jasper County played host to Effingham St. Anthony and claimed victories in both seventh- and eighth-grade action Thursday.

Jasper County won the seventh-grade match, 25-11, 25-21. Flowers led the winners in aces with four. Reich had four kills and five digs while Tate led in assists with four. The winners evened their record at 4-4.

In the eighth-grade match, Jasper County won 25-10, 25-13 and is now 7-1.

Shull led in aces with six and kills with three. Jenks, Shull and Probst had one assist each.

Sophia Ememrich led St. Anthony in the first set with three service points and in the second set with five points.

At Newton

Seventh-Grade Match

Jasper County -- Flowers, 4 aces, 1 kill; Dhom, 2 aces, 3 kills, 2 assists, 1 dig; Reich, 1 ace, 4 kills, 3 assists, 5 digs; Ghast, 1 ace, 1 kill, 3 digs; Jones, 3 kills, 1 assist, 1 dig; Tate, 4 assists, 1 dig; Inyart, 1 assist; Collins, 1 dig

Eighth-Grade Match

At Altamont

South Central and Altamont Lutheran split victories Thursday.

South Central won the seventh-grade match, 25-15, 25-22.

In eighth-grade play, Altamont Lutheran was the winner, 25-15, 25-10. South Central dropped to 6-3 on the season.

 

At Cowden

Stewardson-Strasburg defeated Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City in both matches Thursday.

Stew-Stras won the seventh-grade contest, 25-6, 25-16.

Leading CHBC were Jayla Arnett and Brylie Prater with three points each. Prater led in aces with two. Arnett and Carissa Wakefield had one assist each. Allison Shields, Wakefield and Ethel Stuckemeyer had one kill each. Zoe Sarver led in digs with three.

"These girls had some great moments against a very good team and are communicating better," said CHBC Coach Angela Jefferies. "However, we couldn't afford a 74% serve rate."

In eighth-grade action, Stewardson-Strasburg was a 25-15, 25-19 winner.

CHBC's Haley Doty led in points with 11, aces with seven, and had one assist, one dig and one block. Lena Bowlin and Alaynnah Rauch had one assist each. Lizah Bowlin and Le. Bowlin had one dig each. 

"The eighth-grade struggled with serves as well, hitting only 76%," said Coach Jefferies. "They too had some great moments, but were outplayed."

At Cowden

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City -- Doty, 11 points, 7 aces, 1 assist, 1 kill, 1 block, 1 dig; Li Bowlin, 1 point, 1 ace, 1 kill, 1 dig; Le. Bowlin, 3 points, 1 ace, 1 assist, 2 kills, 1 dig; Rauch, 1 assist; Wakefield, 2 points, 1 ace, 1 kill; Bethel, 1 point

 

At Louisville

Altamont defeated North Clay (Louisville) in eighth-grade action Thursday, 25-18, 25-20.

North Clay dropped to 1-4 in the National Trail Conference, 1-5 ovrall.

In the seventh-grade match, North Clay was a winner 25-16, 25-20.
