South Central won the seventh-grade match, 25-6, 25-9 to improve to 7-1 on the season.
In eighth-grade play, South Central won, 25-18, 25-14 and is now 6-2.
At Teutopolis
Mattoon came calling and picked up the seventh-grade match over Teutopolis Friday.
Mattoon won 25-21, 16-25, 25-9. T-town dropped to 4-4.
"When you are learning volleyball, it can be hard to win while doing the stuff the right way," said Coach Jim Dietz. "Shortcuts are easy. We were playing the right way and in the second set got some good attacks from Summer Vahling and a good serving run to close things out by Maddie Repking."
In eighth-grade action, T-town was a winner, 27-25, 25-10 and is now 6-3.
"We started close in the first set for the same reason as the seventh-grade and we were down 13-4 at one point, but we got some clutch swings from Ella Tarter and Elise Pals to bring it back to 24-23," said Dietz. "We missed a good, aggressive serve, then came back with a swing by Anna Hemmen to tie it and just closed it out the way competitive teams do. It carried over to the second set."
