Effingham St. Anthony and Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg seasons came to a close in Class 1A sectional volleyball finals Wednesday evening.

Class 1A Webber Township (Bluford) Sectional

St. Anthony fought all the way but came up on the short end of a three-set match.

Norris City-Omaha-Enfield won the opener 25-21 but the Bulldogs clawed back with a 25-22 victory. Then in the final set, NCOE pulled out a 25-11 win for the match.

Andrea Rudolphi led in kills with nine and aces with two. Addie Wernsing had 15 assists. Maddie Kibler led in digs with six. Lucy Fearday had two blocked shots.

The Bulldogs end an outstanding season with a 30-9 record.

Class 1A Webber Township Sectional

St. Anthony -- Faber, 1 ace, 9 assists; Wernsing, 1 kill, 15 assists; Rudolphi, 9 kills, 2 aces; Hatton, 7 kills; Nuxoll, 4 kills, 1 block; Fearday, 4 kills, 2 blocks; Kibler, 1 ace, 6 digs; Niemeyer, 1 kill, 1 block; Seagle, 2 kills, 1 block

 

Class 1A Champaign St. Thomas More Sectional

In the championship match of the St. Thomas More Sectional, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg came up on the short end of a two set match against Champaign St. Thomas More.

St. Thomas More won 25-21, 26-24.

"We knew going into this match that one team will go on and one team will go home," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "It's never easy being the team that has to go home. I think we played scared tonight and that hurt our confidence. We wish St .Thomas More the best of luck moving forward. This team holds a special place in my heart and we will miss our seniors as they move on to college."

Leading the way for the Hatchets were Kinley Quast with four aces and five digs, Halle Moomaw with nine kills, Ella Kinkelaar with 18 assists and five digs, Ainslie Friese with five digs and Moomaw and Reese Bennett with three assist blocks each. Kinkelaar had one block.

The Hatchets finish the season with a 29-10 record.

Class 1A Champaign St. Thomas More Sectional

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg -- Kinkelaar, 1 ace, 2 kills, 18 assists, 5 digs, 1 block; Vonderheide, 5 kills, 4 digs; Moomaw, 9 kills, 1 dig, 3 block assists; Quast, 4 aces, 5 digs; Hayes, 1 kill, 3 digs; Carey, 4 kills, 1 assist, 1 dig; Eident, 1 assist, 5 digs; Bennett, 1 kill, 3 block assists

 

Class 2A Breese Mater Dei Sectional

Playing for the championship were Breese Mater Dei and Breese Central. Mater Dei came out the winner, 25-23, 25-20.
