North Clay, WSS, Cumberland, Newton Advance In Volleyball Regionals

FARINA -- North Clay (Louisville) advanced in the Class 1A South Central Volleyball Regional Tuesday evening.

The Cardinals downed Clay Cty, 25-18, 25-18 in the quarterfinals. North Clay improved to 26-10 on the season.

Clay City was led by Taylor Pittman with four kills and eight blocks. Sammie Craig led in digs with 28.

In the second match, Patoka Co-op downed Altamont. Altamont won the opener 25-22 but Patoka came back with 25-17, 25-19 counts for the match.

Altamont was led by Alyvia Wills with 10 kills, Peyton Osteen with 22 assists, Maddie Splechter with two aces and Brianna Grunloh with 24 digs.

Tonight's matches feature South Central against St. Elmo/Brownstown at 6 p.m. followed by North Clay taking on Patoka at 7. The winners advance to the regional championship Thursday at 6 p.m.

Class 1A South Central Regional

Class 1A Kansas Regional

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg advanced in the Class 1A Kansas Regional Tuesday.

The Hatchets won over Casey-Westfield, 25-9, 25-16.

Halle Moomaw led the team in aces with six, kills with nine and one solo block and two block assists. Ella Kinkelaar had 11 assists. Samantha Hayes led in digs with seven.

"We had some communication errors tonight but overall did a great job," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "Ainslie Eident and Halle Moomaw served very aggressively tonight and had some nice runs."

In the second match, Broadlands Heritage beat Chrisman, 26-24, 25-11.

Tonight's matches include Bethany Okaw Valley against Kansas at 6 followed by Windsor/Stew-Stras taking on Broadlands Heritage at 7. The winners of tonight's matches adavnce to the championship Thursday at 6 p.m.

Class 1A Kansas Regional

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg -- Kinkelaar, 1 ace, 6 kills, 11 assists, 4 digs; Vonderheide, 1 kill, 2 assists, 3 digs; Moomaw, 6 aces, 9 kills, 2 digs, 1 solo block, 2 block assists; Quast, 3 assists, 4 digs; Hayes, 1 ace, 1 kill, 7 digs, 1 block assist; Carey, 4 kills; Eident, 3 aces, 1 assist, 3 digs; Bennett, 2 digs, 1 block assist

 

Class 1A Oblong Regional

Cumberland defeated Dieterich in the second match of the evening at the Oblong Regional Tuesday.

The Pirates won 25-12, 25-20.

In the opener, Oblong downed Red Hill (Bridgeport), 25-16, 25-12.

Tonight's matches see Effingham St. Anthony facing Neoga at 6 p.m. followed by Oblong and Cumberland squaring off at 7.

The winners advance to the championship match Thursday at 6 p.m.

 

Class 2A Salem Regional

Top-seeded Newton moved into the championship match with a 25-18, 25-13 win over Lawrenceville in the Salem Regional Tuesday.

The Eagles were led by Utley and Schafer with two aces each, Shull and Smithenry with four kills each, Schafer with 14 assists, Shull and Kessler with four blocked shots each and Bennett with nine digs.

Newton improved to 28-8 on the season.

In the second match, Pana downed Salem, 25-11, 25-14.

Newton will now meet Pana at 6 p.m. Thursday for the regional championship.

Class 2A Salem Regional

Newton -- Utley, 2 aces, 2 digs; Schafer, 2 aces, 1 kill, 14 assists, 2 digs; Shull, 4 kills, 4 blocks, 1 dig; Smithenry, 4 kills, 1 dig; Kessler, 3 kills, 4 blocks; Zumbahlen, 2 kills 3 blocks, 1 dig; Rauch, 2 kills, 6 digs; Hemrich, 1 assist, 1 dig; Martin, 3 digs; Stanley, 2 digs

 

Class 2A Shelbyville Regional

Robinson and Shelbyville advanced to the championship of the Shelbyville Regional Tuesday.

Robinson won over Marshall, 25-23, 26-24 in the first match of the evening.

Shelbvyille then defeated Vandalia, 27-25, 25-19.

The two teams meet at 6 p.m. Thursday for the title.

 

Class 3A Herrin Regional

Effingham High School saw its season come to a close with a loss in the Herrin Regional Tuesday.

The Hearts fell in two sets, 25-20, 25-23.

EHS was led by Ali Davis with five kills, Berkley Pullen with 10 assists, Hannah Thompson with three aces, Reaghan DeLong with two blocked shots and Saige Althoff with 17 digs.

In the opener, Centralia won over Mount Vernon, 25-15, 25-11.

Centralia will meet Herrin at 6 p.m. Thursday for the regional crown.

Class 3A Herrin Regional
