Class 2A Shelbyville Regional

Teutopolis saw its season come to a close in the Shelbyville Regional Monday evening.

The Wooden Shoes had a hard-fought battle against Marshall. Marshall won the opener 26-24 before T-town took the second set, 25-17. Marshall then won the match, 26-24.

T-town was led by TaNeal Einhorn with seven kills and three blocks, Sara Swingler with four aces and 13 assists and Claresa Ruholl with 32 digs. Those 32 digs broke the record for digs that Ruholl had set last week at 26.

Emma Deters finishes with 64 aces, breaking the school record of 47 set by Savannah Grimes in 2016. Sara Niemerg set the team record in digs with 324. That was previously set by Katelyn Jansen in 2018.

"Two bang-bang calls at 24-24 in the first set went against us to give Marshall the first set," said T-town Coach Jim Dietz. "We came back and built a 24-19 lead in the final set before giving up seven consecutive points to lose the contest.

"A wise man once said, 'Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rans.' It was unfortunate to lose after playing so well for most of the first three sets. I think we got scared having a big lead and we began playing to not lose rather than to close the match out and Marshall rode that to victory. It would've been nice to have another night, another week with the team."

Marshall advances to face Robinson tonight at 6 followed by Shelbyville meeting Vandalia at 7. The winners advance to the title contest Thursday.
