CHARLESTON -- Effingham swept through varsity and junior varsity play against Charleston with victories Tuesday evening.

The Hearts scored 25-20, 28-26 wins in the JV contest.

In varsity play, EHS went out 25-20, 25-18 over Charleston. Bria Beals tallied six kills and had three aces. Hannah Thompson led in assists with 12 and had three aces. Angela Ballman led in digs with seven.

Charleston was a winner in the freshman/sophomore match, 21-19, 16-21, 15-13.

Effingham will be back in action Thursday celebrating Senior Night against Mahomet-Seymour. The seniors will be honored between the junior varsity and varsity matches. The JV match begins at approximately 6 p.m. so the ceremony will be around 7:15 p.m.

At St. Anthony

Effingham St. Anthony played host to Cumberland and pulled out a victory Tuesday evening.

The Bulldogs fell in the opening set, 25-17. But St. Anthony took the next set 25-22 and won the match 25-17.

Addie Wernsing and Anna Niemeyer led in aces with three each. Abbi Hatton and Lucy Fearday had three blocks each. Anna Faber led in assists with 16. Andrea Rudolphi had 12 kills. Maddie Kibler led in digs with 15.

St. Anthony also claimed the junior varsity match, 25-11, 25-7 and won the freshman/sophomore contest, 25-18, 25-13.

At Altamont

Altamont went three sets but finished with a win over Teutopolis in varsity competition Tuesday evening.

The Indians won the opener 25-15 but T-town came back with a 26-24 victory. The Indians then won the match, 25-23.

Altamont was led by Alyvia Wills in kills with eight, blocks with two and digs with 20, Peyton Osteen in assists with 21 and in aces with two and Lanie Tedrick with two blocks.

"After coming from behind in the second set to win it, we let Altamont take an 8-3 lead in the third which the Indians expanded to 16-8 before a comeback that happened too late," said T-town Coach Jim Dietz. "The third set started with us tipipng eight or nine straight without hitting anything and we dug a big hole because of that. it's a shame because Emma Deters almost bailed us out with a run at the very end, and when we switched lineups around after the first set, sophomore Claresa  Ruholl came in and dug eveything in sight.

"Now we have a couple days to prepare for the last regular season tourney of the year this weekend, and senior night is now less than a week away."

The Wooden Shoes were led by Claresa Ruholl with 16 digs, Sara Swingler with 13 assists, Sara Niemerg with four aces, TaNeal Einhorn with seven kills and Taylor Bueker and Rylee Dittamore with two blocks each.

Teutopolis was a winner in junior varsity play, 25-14, 25-17 and in freshman/sophomore action, 25-19, 25-16.

At Altamont

Neoga came calling at Dieterich as the two National Trail Conference teams met, and captured a victory over the homestanders Tuesday evening.

The Indians won 25-19, 25-10.

Andrea Burcham led in assists with 10, Allison Worman had two blocked shots, Haylee Campbelll led in kills with seven, Natalie O'Dell had three aces and Klowee Conder led in digs with 11.

At Dieterich

At Strasburg

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg celebrated Senior Night with a victory over Sullivan Tuesday.

The Hatchets won, 25-10, 25-16 to improve to 19-6 on the season.

"Tonight we celebrated our seniors along wtih Sullivan's seniors," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "We have five seniors, Kaylynn Carey, Maddie Rincker, Reese Bennett, Mary Vonderheide and Samantha Porter."

The Hatchets were led by Ella Kinkelaar, Halle Moomaw and Ainslie Eident with two aces each, Moomaw with nine kills, Kinkelaar with 25 assists and Kinley Quast with nine digs.

WSS will be back in action Thursday at the National Trail Confernce Tournament at St. Anthony's Enlow Center. WSS will meet Altamont at 5 p.m. and take on St. Elmo/Brownstown at 7.

Windsor/Stew-Stras also claimed the junior varsity match, 25-16, 25-18 and improves to 14-4 and won the freshman/sophomore match, 25-20, 25-18 and is 11-6-5.

At Strasburg

At Oblong

North Clay (Louisville) beat Oblong, 25-22, 25-21 Thursday. 

The Cardinals improve to 20-8 on the season and will be back in action Friday in the National Trail Conference Tournament against Dieterich at 6 p.m. and South Central at 7.

In junior varsity play, Oblong was a winner, 25-18, 25-16. North Clay claimed the freshman/sophomore contest, 25-16, 25-8.

 

At Patoka

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City fell to Patoka in two sets, 25-19, 25-18 Tuesday.

CHBC is now 9-17 on the season. Gracie Heckert led in kills with four and digs with 14, Madison Wojcik had two aces and seven assists. Karlee Smith and Kyleigh Wallace had one block each.

Patoka was also a winner in junior varsity action, 25-12, 25-21. In the freshman/sophomore contest, Patoka was a 28-26 winner while CHBC won 25-19. The two teams played to an 11-11 third set.

CHBC will be back in action Friday in the National Trail Conference Tournament meeting St. Anthony at 5 p.m. and taking on Neoga at 6 p.m. at the Enlow Center.
