Effingham St. Anthony picked up a victory over North Clay (Louisville) as the two National Trail Conference volleyball teams met Thursday at the Enlow Center.

The Bulldogs nabbed the varsity match in two sets, 25-21, 25-21.

Addie Wernsing had 13 assists for the Bulldogs. Lucy Fearday led in kills with eight. Abbi Hatton had two aces and 11 digs. Anna Niemeyer led in blocks with two.

North Clay dropped to 5-3 in the NTC, 19-8 overall and returns to play at Oblong Tuesday.

The Bulldogs also captured the junior varsity match, 25-5, 25-14.

In the freshman/sophomore contest, North Clay was the winner, 21-25, 25-19, 17-10.

At Farina

South Central defeated Neoga in two sets in National Trail Conference play Thursday.

The Cougars won 25-10, 25-14 and improved to 18-5 overall.

Neoga was a winner in the junior varsity match, 25-18, 25-23. South Central dropped to 8-5.

The freshman/sophomore match was a split. Neoga won 27-25 and South Central won 25-8. The Cougars are 3-4-5.

South Central is back in action Saturday in the Herrin Tournament.

At St. Elmo

St. Elmo/Brownstown had a pretty easy time against Mulberry Grove Thursday.

SEB was a winner, 25-10, 25-12. Leading the way was Peyton Garrard with six kills, three aces and nine points, Morgan Hall with 13 digs and two blocked shots and Shelby Sasse with three aces.

At Newton

Marshall came calling and picked up a victory over Newton Thursday.

The Lions won in two sets, 25-13, 25-15. Newton dropped to 19-7 on the season and 4-1 in the Little Illini Conference.

Leading Newton were Schafer and Zumbahlen in aces with two each, Schafer with nine assists, one block and eight digs and Kessler with four kills.

The Eagles won the junior varsity match, 25-10, 25-14.

Newton is back in action Monday against Teutopolis.

Lincoln Prairie Conference Tournament

Cumberland captured the consolation championship at the Lincoln Prairie Conference Tournament Thursday.

The Pirates defeated Blue Ridge in two close sets, 26-24, 29-27.

Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond won the championship over Okaw Valley, 25-19, 17-25, 25-22.

Decatur LSA claimed third place over Heritage, 25-11, 25-13.

 

At Lincoln

Effingham HIgh School traveled to Lincoln and fell in both varsity and junior varsity competition Thursday.

In the varsity match, Lincoln was a winner, 25-14, 25-17.

The Hearts were led by Sidney Donaldson with five kills, Hannah Thompson with 10 assists and Bria Beals with 11 digs.

In junior varsity play, Lincoln won the opening set 25-20 but Effingham fought back to take the second set 25-22. Lincoln then pulled out the win 19-17.

The Hearts will be back in action Saturday at the Pana Tournament.
