Two charity events highlighted Thursday night volleyball action in the area.

Teutopolis held its "Purple Night" in memory of Elizabeth Weidner. Teutopolis Coach Jim Dietz said, "The scoreboard was disappointing, but tonight wasn't about that. It was much bigger with the game in memory of Elizabeth and the scholarship fund in her name. The VB girls did all the planning, all the prep without needing help from the administration or coaches. In a world where kids are regularly criticized for being slackers or not being involved, this is the opposite. I'm incredibly proud of the job they did with the evening. Their efforts raised at least $800 for the scholarship fund. It was great to have a rowdy Shoe student section, and to have a ton of St. Anthony fans at the match, too."

St. Anthony won the match 25-22, 28-26. Adrenaline from the big crowd and the special evening led Teutopolis to take a 7-0 advantage, but St. Anthony scored the next seven points to tie the first set. In the second set, Teutopolis couldn't hold a 24-22 lead due to pressure put on the Shoes defense by St. Anthony's servers.
