Effingham St. Anthony hosted Patoka and was a 25-14, 25-21 winner in varsity volleyball competition Thursday.

The Bulldogs' Lucy Fearday led in kills with nine and aces with three. Addie Wernsing had 21 assists. Abbi Hatton led in digs with 21. Sophia Seagle had one blocked shot.

In the junior varsity match, the Bulldogs won 25-14, 25-15. St. Anthony also claimed a freshman-sophomore contest, 25-18, 25-8.

At Louisville

South Central defeated North Clay in two sets in National Trail Conference play Thursday.

The Cougars won 25-21, 25-16 to improve to 13-5 on the season. They were led by Brooklyn Garrett with nine kills, Sierra Arnold with five aces and Sidney Shumate with nine assists and eight digs. Olivia Brauer and Chloe Smith had one block each.

North Clay drops to 4-1 in the conference, 17-5 overall.

South Central won the junior varsity match, 25-20, 25-20 and improved to 7-2. North Clay was a winner in freshman/sophomore action, 25-16, 15-20.

At Louisville

At Neoga

Neoga picked up a National Trail Conference victory over St. Elmo/Brownstown.

The Indians won in two sets, 25-21, 25-18.

Neoga was led by Sydney Richards with 13 digs, three aces, three blocked shots and eight kill Kiowee Conder had three aces, Allison Worman had eight kills and three blocks and Natalie O'Dell, 13 assists.

SEB was led by Morgan Hall with five kills, 16 digs and five points and Jayna Ireland with one blocked shot.

At Neoga

At Mulberry Grove

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City tallied a varsity win over Mulberry Grove. CHBC won the opening set 25-22 but Mulberry Grove came back with a 25-23 win.

CHBC then took the match, 25-20 to improve to 8-12.

The Bobcats were led by Gracie Heckert with eight kills and 18 digs; Marissa Summers with two aces and 12 assists, Madison Wojcik with 12 assists and Kyleigh Wallace with three blocks.

Mulberry Grove was a winner in the junior varsity match, 22-25, 25-18, 25-16. CHBC drops to 2-10.

At Lawrenceville

Newton won both junior varsity and varsity matches over Lawrenceville Thursday.

The Eagles won the varsity contest, 25-22, 25-13 to improve to 2-0 in the Little Illini Conference, 16-6 overall.

Leading Newton were Utley with three aces, Rauch with eight kills, Schafer with 20 assists and Bennett with four digs.

In the junior varsity match, Newton was a winner 25-16, 25-14. The two teams split in freshman/sophomore action. Newton won 25-13 and Lawrenceville won 21-18.

At Effingham

Mattoon came calling in Apollo Conference play and handed Effingham a loss. The Hearts took the opener 25-22 but the Green Wave won 25-18, 25-21 for the match.

EHS was led by Ali Davis and Sidney Donaldson with six kills each. Hannah Thompson had 12 assists and three aces. Raegan Boone had three aces. Berkley Pullen led in digs with 12.

In the junior varsity match, EHS won the first set 29-27 but Mattoon came back with 25-21 and 15-9 victories for the match. The Hearts won the freshman/sophomore match, 21-18, 21-7. The freshmen will be hosting tournament Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.

The EHS varsity is back in action Tuesday against Mount Zion.

Clay City played host to Dieterich and sent the Movin' Maroons home with a loss in two sets Thursday.

The Wolves were winners, 25-15, 25-9. Leading the way were Taylor Pittman with five kills, 1 block and four aces and Sammie Craig had 10 digs.
