T-town Beats EHS, S. Central, SEB Win In Volleyball

Teutopolis High School came calling and claimed a victory over Effingham in varsity volleyball competition Monday evening.

The Wooden Shoes won, 25-17, 25-20. Niemerg, Konkel, Einhorn and Pals led the Shoes in kills with four each. Konkel had two blocks and Niemerg led in digs with 10. Zumbahlen had 19 assists.

"A key moment was we were down in the second set and we had great defense by Sara Niemerg and Summer Wall that led to consecutive kills by Molly Pals to permit us to tie the contest," said T-town Coach Jim Dietz. "Overall, we hit .281 for the night, the best performance of the season.

"One of the great privileges of coaching is working with kids who keep trying and working hard. We've thrown a lot at them with new systems and this is now four sets in a row, including the last two against Bloomington, where we were really get it."

T-town is now 7-9 on the season.

Effingham was a winner in junior varsity play, 25-13, 18-25, 25-16 and also won the freshman/sophomore match, 25-19, 20-25, 20-18.

At Altamont

South Central moved its record to 8-4 on the season with a victory over Altamont Monday evening.

The Cougars won in two sets, 25-9, 25-18. Brooklyn Garrett led the way for the Cougars in kills with five and digs with 21. Sierra Arnold and Olivia Brauer had two aces each. Brauer led in assists with six and blocks with three. Brooke Cowger also had three blocks.

Maddie Splechter led Altamont in kills with four and digs with eight. Peyton Osteen had eight assists. Lanie Tedrick, Briana Hassebrock and Grace Lemke had one block each. 

In junior varsity action, South Central was a winner, 25-21, 18-25, 15-13 and is now 6-1. In the freshman/sophomore match, South Central won the opening set, 27-17 and the second set ended in a 21-21 tie. The Cougars are 0-3-2.

St. Elmo/Brownstown took the win over Ramsey in two sets Monday, 25-17, 25-18.

Morgan Hall led in kills with seven and had seven points for the winners. Peyton Garrard had four aces. Jayna Ireland led in blocked shots with two. Shelby Sasse had 10 digs.

Meridian came calling and picked up a victory over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Monday.

Meridian won in two sets, 25-19, 25-18. Leading CHBC in kills was Karlee Smith with four. Gracie Heckert, Madison Wojcik and Kaycie Stefanski had one ace each. Wojcik led in assists with five. Stefanski had 13 digs.

Meridian also nabbed the junior varsity match, 25-17, 25-23 and won the freshman/sophomore contest, 25-11, 25-21.

Clay City won the opening set 25-18 over Oblong but fell in the match. Oblong came back with 25-20, 25-18 sets for the match win.

Taylor PIttman led Clay City with five kills. Sammie Craig had five blocked shots. Chelsea Beck led in aces with three. Keidra Kuenstler had 24 digs.
