At St. Joseph
Teutopolis traveled to St. Joseph-Ogden and fell in action to the homestanders, 25-17, 25-12 Thursday.
"After falling behind in the first set, 15-10, we came back to tie it," said T-town Coach Jim Dietz. "Unfortunately, multiple aces by SJO opened a lead that they held. SJO started with a five-point run behind their senior outside hitter in the second set and never looked back.
"It was not a night for the history books. St. Joe had their great outside hitter and they got the ball to her front and back row and we looked a bit shocked and out of position when she did that. As always, I think that part of thing is the coach's responsibility and I didn't prepare us for what St. Joe had. I think tonight becomes a learning experience. We have quite a few kids who came into the year without varsity experience and then with the pandemic, crowds haven't been the same and then tonight, it was a regular away game and the St. Joe fans were rowdy from the start. It was a great atmosphere to be in.
"The other big bright side, we struggled with stuff, but we never gave up. We made them beat us and we didn't give it away. That's a great quality for a team to have."
The Wooden Shoes claimed the junior varsity match, 25-11, 25-19. St. Joseph-Ogden took the freshman/sophomore contest, 25-18, 25-16.
