St. Anthony Wins Pink Out, Volleyball Roundup

Effingham and Effingham St. Anthony volleyball players raised around $1,000 for cancer.
Effingham St. Anthony captured the annual Pink Out against Effingham in volleyball competition Tuesday evening in a match heard on 979 XFM.
The Bulldogs swept the evening, taking the freshman/sophomore contest, 25-10, 24-26, 15-7 and the junior varsity match, 23-25, 25-15, 15-10.
In the Pink Out varsity contest, the Bulldogs went out at 25-18, 25-9.
Leading the way for the Bulldogs were Abbi Hatton with four kills, Lucy Fearday with six aces, three blocks and nine points, Anna Faber with five assists and Andrea Rudolphi with 10 points. The Bulldogs will play host to Robinson Thursday.
The Hearts were led by Bria Beals with three kills and five digs, Ali Davis with four assists and Raegan Boone with three aces. EHS is back in action Thursday at Mount Zion in Apollo Conference play.
Almost $1,000 was raised during the Pink Out in the fight against cancer.

Newton swept Altamont in volleyball action Tuesday evening.
The Eagles claimed the varsity match, 25-21, 25-15 to improve to 5-2 on the season. Rauch led the Eagles in kills with six. Schafer had 21 assists and Shull three blocks. Utley and Shull finished with two aces each. Martin had seven digs.
In junior varsity play, Newton was a winner, 25-16, 22-25, 15-10 and the Eagles also claimed the freshman match, 25-23, 25-11. Newton is back in action Saturday at the Olney Tournament. The Eagles will meet Palestine/Hutsonville at 9 a.m .and Mount Zion at 11 a.m.
Altamont was led in varsity play by Peyton Osteen with three assists, Della Berg with two aces and Brianna Grunloh with seven digs.

Teutopolis handed Marshall a loss in varsity action Tuesday. The Wooden Shoes won 25-17, 25-16 to improve to 5-3 on the season.
Pals and Konkel had five kills each. Niemerg led in aces with five and digs with 10. Konkel added three blocked shots. Zumbahlen led in assists with 13.
"In the first game, Marshall came back from a 5-0 deficit to take a 10-6 lead," said T-town Coach Jim Dietz. "A serving run by junior Sara Niemerg gave us the lead back which we kept the rest of the way. Throughout the match, we had outstanding defense on the back line.
"We had a run of silliness in the first set. Honestly, it looked like serves more than anything. Once that squared away, we were fine. I thoguht TaNeal Einhorn had a great night with consistent hitting and a big block in the middle. I also thought Ava Ruholl had a good night defensively.
"Now we hit the road for a couple of weeks including Murderer's Row with the Crossroads Classic, Effingham and Windsor/Stew-Stras, boom, boom, boom."
T-town also claimed the junior varsity match, 25-13, 25-13 and returns to action Thursday at St. Joseph-Ogden.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg improved to 1-0 in the National Trail Conference and 2-0 overall with a victory over Dieterich Tuesday.
The Hatchets won in two, 25-9, 25-15.
"I'm pretty pleased with the way the girls are playing," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "Team work is strong and I love the excitement on the floor."
Ainslie Eident led in aces with five, Gabby Vonderheide tallied 10 kills, Ella Kinkelaar and Maddie Rincker had eight assists each and Kinley Quast led in digs with 10.
WSS also claimed the junior varsity match, 25-11, 25-10 and is 2-0.

At Woodlawn
A match Monday between visiting South Central and host Woodlawn was suspended in the third set due to heat-humidity causing dangerous floor conditions.
Woodlawn won the first set 25-22 and South Central took the second set 25-22. South Central was up 11-7 in the third set when the game was suspended. The match will continue from this point Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 6:15 p.m.
South Central won the junior varsity contest, 25-19, 20-25, 15-7. Woodlawn claimed the freshman/sophomore match, 25-8, 25-18.
The Cougars are back in action Thursday hosting St. Elmo/Brownstown.
