Cumberland, WSS Seasons Come To Close In Sectionals

Champaign St. Thomas More won the title match, 25-19, 25-22 and will advance to the Casey-Westfield Sectional Friday against Norris City-Omaha-Enfield.
"I'm so proud of the girls tonight," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "They kept fighting til the end. It's sad to see the season come to an end and we wish St. thomas More good luck with the rest of their season. .We definitely will miss our seniors as they get ready to venture off to college."
The Hatchets were led by Gabby Vonderheide, Natalie Hayes and Ainslie Eident with one ace each, Vonderheide with 10 kills, Ella Kinkelaar with 20 assists, Kinley Quast with 10 digs and Brianna Hewing with one solo block and two block assists.
Windsor/Stew-Stras ended the season with a 30-7-1 record.
Cumberland High School also saw its season come to a close in the championship match of the Class 1A Wayne City Sectional Wednesday.
The Pirates went up against Norris City-Omaha-Enfield and fell, 25-14, 25-17. NCOE heads to the Casey-Westfield Sectional Friday against Champaign St. Thomas More. The winner of this match advances to the Class 1A State Tournament Friday, Nov. 12 and Saturday, Nov. 13.
