Altamont, S. Central, C'land, WSS To Play For VB Regional Titles

In the Class 1A Effingham St. Anthony Regional, South Central and Altamont moved into the title contest.
South Central handed St. Elmo/Brownstown a loss in the opening match. The Cougars won in two sets, 25-17, 25-18.
The Cougars were led by Halle Smith with nine kills, Sierra Arnold with 12 digs, Olivia Brauer with 16 assists, Brooklyn Garrett with two aces and 11 digs and Brooke Cowger with two blocks.
South Cenral improved to 27-6 on the season.
In the second contest, Altamont claimed a victory over host St. Anthonys, 25-16, 25-20.
The Indians' Ellie McManaway led in digs with nine and assists with 12. She also had seven kills. Ella Ruffner led in kills with nine. Grace Lemke had one block.
The Bulldogs were led by Lucy Feaday with eight kills, Anna Faber with 19 assists and six points and Fearday and Maddie Kibler with two block assists.
Altamont and South Central meet at 6 p.m. Thursday for the regional championship.

Class 1A Clay City Regional
The title contest will feature Cumberland against Clay City in this regional after both teams nabbed victories Wednesday.
Cumberland, seeded No. 1, handed Hutsonville/Palestine a loss in two sets, 25-7, 25-13.
In the second match, host Clay City downed North Clay (Louisville), 25-20, 25-9. North Clay ends the season with a 23-14 record.
Clay City was led in kills by Sammie Craig with nine and Hailey MIller with eight. Taylor PIttman and Craig had six blocked shots each. Elaine Kessler led in aces wih three. Keidra Kuenstler led in digs with 12.
Cumberland and Clay City will square off at 6 p.m. Thursday for the regional crown.

Class 1A Moweaqua Central A&M Regional
Top-seeded Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg moved into the championshp match with a victory Wednesday evening.
The Hatchets downed No. 6 Moweaqua Central A&M in two sets, 25-7, 25-10.
"The girls came to play tonight," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "I'm so proud of them."
In even aces, Ella Kinkelaar, Gabby Vonderheide and Kinley Quast had three each. Vonderheide led in kills with eight. Kinkelaar had 23 assists. Quast led in digs with 12 and had two block assists along with Natalie Hayes, Halle Moomaw, Brianna Hewing and Kaylynn Carey.
In the other match, Macon Mereidian defeated Bethany Okaw Valley, 25-19, 25-22.
WSS goes into the championship match against Macon Meridian with a 28-6-1 record. The title contest is scheduled for Thursday at 6 p.m.

In the Class 3A Effingham Regional, No. 3 Matttoon will face No. 2 Marion at 6 p.m.
