WSS, Newton, S. Central, Altamont Claim Volleyball Victories

The Hatchets won the opening set, 25-21 but St. Anthony came back with a 25-15 victory. WSS then won the match, 25-21.
"St. Anthony really put up a good fight," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "We lost our momentum in set two. We started to come back at the end, but it was too late. They did a great job shutting down our midlde hitters, so we had to be creative by moving positions around. It was a good game to keep us on our toes."
Gabby Vonderheide led the winners in kills with 15. Kinley Quast had 25 digs while Vonderheide had 14. Natalie Hayes and Quast had one ace each. Ella Kinkelaar led in assists with 34.
The Bulldogs were led by Abbi Hatton with 11 kills, Addie Wernsing with three aces and 13 points, Lucy Fearday with five blocks and Anna Faber with 21 assists.
St. Anthony claimed the junior varsity match, 25-9, 25-16 and won the freshman/sophomore contest, 25-6, 25-22.

Newton pushed its overall record to 17-3 on the season by beating Mount Carmel Tuesday evening.
The Eagles won 25-17, 25-22. Schafer led in aces with three and assists with 23 while Ochs had nine kills. Kessler had two blocked shots and Bennett finished with 13 digs.
Mount Carmel was a winner in the junior varsity match, 18-25, 25-11, 15-12. Newton won the freshman/sophomore match, 25-21, 25-5.

Teutopolis captured the freshman and junior varsity matches but fell to Vandalia in varsity action Tuesday.
The Vandals claimed the varsity win 25-19, 18-25, 25-11. T-town was led by Emily Konkel with 12 digs and eight points, Jaden Deters with seven kills and Kaitlyn Schumacher with five blocks. Macy Swingler had two aces.
The Wooden Shoes won the JV match, 12-25, 25-22, 25-15 and the freshman contest, 25-23, 25-23.
At Teutopolis

At Sandoval
South Central captured a non-conference contest over Sandoval Tuesday.
The Cougars won in two sets, 25-4, 25-4 and now sports a 16-4 record. Leading the way for South Central were Halle Smith with six kills, Olivia Brauer with eight assists and two digs, Brooklyn Garrett with 16 aces and Emma Jenne with two blocks.
South Central is now 16-4 on the season. The Cougars also won the junior varsity match, 25-4, 25-15 and improves to 12-1.
The Cougars are back in action Thursday at Neoga.

Altamont handed St. Elmo/Brownstown a loss in two sets, 26-24, 25-14 Tuesday evening.
The Indians were led in the victory by Laren Walker with 13 digs and three aces, Ellie McManaway and Ada Tappendorf with two blocks each, McManaway with 13 assists and Ella Ruffner with eight kills.
Altamont also nabbed the junior varsity match, 25-22, 25-0.

Sullivan played host to Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and claimed a varsity victory Tuesday.
Sullivan was a winner 25-13, 25-18. Leading CHBC were Tatyana Duckwitz and Madison Wojcik with three kills each. Marissa Summers had three aces and five points. Wojcik had three assists. Gracie Heckert had seven digs.
The Bobcats captured the junior varsity contest, 2-25, 27-25, 15-11.
At Sullivan

At Wayne City
North Clay (Louisville) fell to Wayne City in varsity play.
The Cardinals won the opener 25-13 but Wayne City came back strong with 25-22, 25-22 scores for the victory. North Clay drops to 16-7 overall.
Wayne City also captured the junior varsity match, 18-25, 25-23, 15-13.
At Villa Grove
Cumberland will be playing for the championship of the Little Prairie Confrence Tournament Thursday.
The Pirates downed LSA in Tuesday play while Heritage was a winner over Blue Ridge. Cumberland will meet Heritage at 7 p.m. for the title. LSA takes on Blue Ridge for third place at 6.
Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond was a winner over Tri-County while Okaw Valley downed Villa Grove. ALAH and Villa Grove will now meet for the consolation championship Thursday at 5 p.m.
