Bulldogs, Indians, Hatchets Pick Up Volleyball Wins

Effingham St. Anthony swept St. Elmo/Brownstown in high school volleyball action Tuesday evening.

The Bulldogs went 25-9, 25-12 in varsity play. Leading the way for the winners were Lucy Fearday with nine kills, Addie Wernsing with seven aces and 14 points, Anna Faber with 22 assists and Abbi Hatton, Ada Rozene and Fearday had one block each.

In the junior varsity contest, St. Anthony was a winner, 25-20, 25-10 and took the freshman/sophomore match, 25-17, 26-24.

At Cowden

Atlamont High School came calling and picked up a National Trail Conference victory over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Tuesday.

Laren Walker led the Indians with six digs, 13 serve attempts and two aces. Peyton Osteen also had two aces. Ada Tappendorf and Ella Ruffner had three blocks each. Ellie McManaway led in assists with nine. Tappendorf led in kills with seven.

CHBC was led by Marissa Summers with four kills, Madison Wojcik with one ace and two assists, Tatyana Duckwitz with nine digs. Raechelle Kelly, Wojcik and Karlee Smith had two assists each.

Altamont tallied a 25-23, 25-19 victory in junior varsity play and claimed the freshman/sophomore match, 25-5, 25-12.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg improved to 5-0 in the National Trail Conference with a win over Neoga Tuesday evening.

The Hatchets won in two sets, 25-5, 25-10 and now sports a 10-3 overall record.

Kinley Quast led the way for the winners in aces with six, Brianna Hewing had eight kills, Ella Kinkelaar led in assists with 23 and Gabby Vonderheide had 11 digs.

In junior varsity play, WSS won 25-11, 25-17 and now sports a 4-1 NTC mark and a 9-2 overall record.

In freshman/sophomore action, Neoga claimed the win, 26-24, 25-19. WSS drops to 6-6-1.

Mahomet-Seymour claimed Apollo Conference victories over Effingham Tuesday.

The Bulldogs won the varsity match, 25-18, 30-28.

Leading the Hearts were Kennedy Sowell with eight kills, Mattie Angel with 12 assists, Tori Budde with two aces and eight digs and Sowell, Krista Phillips Lexi Chrappa and Sidney Donaldson with one block each.

In the junior varsity match, Mahomet-Seymour was a winner, 16-25, 25-17, 15-11. The Bulldogs also won the freshman/sophomore match, 21-16, 21-15.

Effingham is back in action Thursday at Mattoon.

Dieterich traveled to Robinson and fell to the homestanders, 25-18, 25-18 in varsity action Tuesday.

Leading Dieterich were Kaitlyn Boerngen with four aces and 13 digs, Alli Schmidt with four assists and Emily Hall with three kills.

In junior varsity play, Robinson was a winner, 25-16, 25-20.

Teutopolis dropped all three matches to Pana in Tuesday evening action.

Pana claimed the varsity contest, 25-20, 25-21.

Leading the Wooden Shoes were Sara Swingler witih five points and 10 assists, Summer Wall with eight digs, Taylor Bueker, Emily Konkel and Kaitlyn Schumacher with two blocks each, Jaden Deters with five kills and Bueker and Jansen with one ace each.

In the junior varsity match, the Panthers won, 25-19, 25-10.

In freshman action, Pana also claimed a victory, 26-24, 25-10.

The Wolves claimed the varsity contest, 25-6, 25-9. Leading the winners were Halley Miller with five kills, Taylor PIttman with four blocks, Keidra Kuenstler with nine digs and Elaina Kessler and Sammie Craig with three aces each.

In the junior varsity match, Clay City was a winner, 25-23, 25-18.
