OLNEY -- Newton and Effingham St. Anthony finished second and third respectively in the Olney Volleyball Tournament Saturday.

The Eagles defeated Mount Zion, 25-20, 25-22 and Salt Fork 25-18, 25-19 in pool play. St. Anthony won over Fairfield, 25-19, 14-25, 17-15 and Tuscola 25-14, 25-19.

In Gold Bracket play, Newton defeated Mount Carmel, 25-14, 25-11 before falling to Tolono Unity, 25-13, 23-25, 15-8 St. Anthony lost to Tolono Unity 25-20, 25-15 before beating Mount Carmel 25-21, 25-16.

Newton then won over the Bulldogs, 25-20, 20-25, 21-19.

Tolono Unity was the winner followed by Newton, St. Anthony and Mount Carmel.

At Altamont

Cumberland claimed first place at the Altamont Volleyball Tournament Saturday.

The Pirates were followed by Vandalia, Altamont and Armrstrong.

Altamont defeated Armstrong, 29-27, 25-17 then fell to Vandalia, 25-? and 23-18. Altamont won over Cerro Gordo, 23-21, 21-15.and Armstrong, 21-18, 21-16.

At Mattoon

St. Elmo/Brownstown fell to Mattoon in Saturday action.

Mattoon won over SEB 25-14, 25-15. The Eagles were led by Morgan Hall with three kills and one blocked shot and Peyton Garrard with three assists.

 

At Champaign

Effingham competed in the Champaign Central Junior Varsity Volleyball Tournament Saturday.

The Hearts defeated Rantoul, 25-11, 25-18 then fell to Champaign Central, 25-20, 20-25, 15-9.

That placed EHS in the third place contest and the Hearts fell to Mahomet-Seymour, 26-24, 25-21.
