Bulldogs Win, Hearts Lose, Area Volleyball Roundup

ROBINSON -- Effingham St. Anthony swept through all three volleyball matches and garnered victories Thursday against Robinson.

 

The Bulldogs tallied a 25-19, 25-23 win in varsity play. Anna Faber led in assists with 10 and had two aces. Ada Rozene led in kills with five and had two aces. Also with two aces were Addie Wernsing and Maddie Kibler. Abbi Hatton and Lucy Fearday led in blocks with three each.

St. Anthony also won the junior varsity contest, 25-18, 25-19 and a freshman/sophomore match, 25-16, 23-25, 15-4.

At Effingham

Effingham played host to Mount Zion in Apollo Conference play Thursday and fell to the Braves.

The Hearts won the opener 26-24 but Mount Zion came back with 25-20, 25-12 scores for the match.

EHS was led by Sawyer Althoff with 17 digs, Lexi Chrappa and Kennedy Sowell with two blocks each, Megan Ballman with two aces, Mattie Angela and Tori Budde with nine assists each and Chrappa with eight kills.

In the junior varsity match, Effingham was a winner, 25-20, 25-15. Mount Zion took the freshman/sophomore match, 21-15, 13-21, 15-13.

EHS is back in action Tuesday at Taylorville. The Hearts junior varsity will compete in the Champaign Central Tournament Saturday.

At St. Elmo

South Central tallied a victory over St. Elmo/Brownstown Thursday.

St. Elmo/Brownstown won the opener 25-21 but the Cougars came back with 25-20, 25-15 sets for the match.

South Central was led by Halle Smith with seven kills, Olivia Brauer with nine assists and five aces, Brooke Cowger with five aces, Brooklyn Garrett with 14 digs and Emma Jenne with five kills. The Cougars are 2-0 in the National Trail Conference, 3-1 overall and back in action Tuesday hosting Dieterich.

St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Morgan Hall with eight kills, Shelby Sasse with two aces, Laney Baldrige with two blocked shots and 19 digs and Peyton Garrard with 12 assists.

Teutopolis fell to St. Joseph-Ogden in varsity and junior varsity competition Thursday.

St. Joseph-Ogden claimed the varsity match, 25-20, 25-10. Leading the Shoes were led by Emily Konkel with seven digs and four kills, Sara Swingler with five assists and Sydnee Huber and Kaitlyn Schumacher with two blocks each.

St. Joseph-Ogden won the junior varsity match 25-20, 20-25, 15-6. T-town claimed the freshman contest, 25-19, 21-25, 15-12.

At Clay City

Clay City claimed both the junior varsity and varsity matches over Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran Thursday.

The Wolves won the varsity match, 25-21, 25-16. Leading the way was Taylor Pittman with 15 blocks, Hailey Miller with six kills and two aces, Sammie Craig and Keidra Kuenstler with two aces each and Kuenstler with six digs.

In junior varsity play, Clay City won 25-22, 23-25, 15-11.
