The Eagles claimed the varsity match, 25-22, 25-21. Shull had six kills for Newton while Schafer had 16 assists and Bennett 12 digs.
Effingham was led by Lexi Chrappa with six kills, Tori Budde with five assists and two aces, Krista Phillips with two aces, Kennedy Sowell with one block and Sawyer Althoff with nine digs.
Effingham won the junior varsity match 20-25, 26-24, 16-14. Newton nabbed the freshman/sophomore contest, 25-13, 21-25, 15-6.

At St. Anthony
South Central tallied a varsity victory over host Effingham St. Anthony Thursday.
The Cougars won in two sets, 25-21, 25-18. Halle Smith led South Central with six kills, two aces and 10 digs while Zada Reynolds had 19 assists and two aces. Sierra Arnold also had two aces.Olivia Brauer and Brooke Cowger had one block each. South Central is 1-0 in the National Trail Conference, 2-0 overall.
St. Anthony was led by Anna Faber with 13 assists, Ada Rozene with five kills, two aces and two blocks and Maddie Kibler had nine points.
The Bulldogs won the junior varsity match, 25-21, 25-21 and the freshman/sophomore match, 13-25, 25-20, 15-10. South Central's JV and frosh/soph are both 1-1.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City played host to Dieterich and tallied a varsity win Thursday.
CHBC claimed the opener 25-9 but Dieterich took the second set, 25-17. CHBC won the match, 25-22.
Leading the Bobcats were Tatyana Duckwitz with six kills, 14 aces, two blocks, five digs and 19 points. Raechelle Kelly also had five digs. Madison Wojcik led in assists with nine.
Dieterich was led by Emily Hall with five aces and four kills, Ali Schmidt had eight assists. Olivia Brummer led in digs with six. Marli Michel had four kills and two blocks.
Dieterich was a winner in the junior varsity match, 14-25, 26-24, 25-13.

Teutopolis improved to 2-0 on the season with a varsity win over Salem Thursday.
The Wooden Shoes were led by Summer Wall with 10 digs, Emily Konkel with four blocks, Lilly Jansen with seven points and Jaden Deters with seven kills.
Salem was a winner in junior varsity play, 25-15, 25-18 and the freshman contest, 21-3, 21-19.
T-town will be competing in the Fairfield Tournament Saturday.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg claimed the season-opener with a victory over Mowaequa Central A&M Thursday.
The Hatchets won 25-17, 26-24. Ella Kinkelaar led the winners in aces with five and assists with 21. Gabby Vonderheide led in kills with seven and digs with nine.
"A&M gave us a good fight tonight as always," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "It's nice to see how we are going to respond the first night and they did as I had asked. We had a few timing issues to clean up as we progress but I'm very happy with how we fought to come back."
Windsor/Stew-Stras also claimed the junior varsity match, 25-22, 25-17. Central A&M captured the freshman/sophomore match, 25-22, 25-12.

Vandalia played host to St. Elmo/Brownstown and claimed a win in three sets. SEB won the opener 25-18 but Vandalia came back with 25-17, 25-23 counts for the match.
SEB was led by Laney Baldridge with eight kills, one blocked shot and eight points, Peyton Garrard with 16 assists and 4 aces, Shelby Sasse with 33 digs and Lillian Nolen with one blocked shot.

North Clay (Louisville) defeated Webber Township (Bluford), 25-15, 24-26, 25-17. The Cardinals are now 1-0 on the season.
In the junior varsity contest, Webber Township was a winner, 25-20, 25-20.
North Clay is back in action Tuesday at Atlamont.

Altamont claimed a 25-13, 25-21 victory over Carlyle in Thursday competition.
Leading the way for the Indians were Ellie McManaway with six digs, three aces, two blocks and 13 assists and Ella Ruffner with nine kills.

Taylor Pittman led in kills with six for Clay City and had seven blocked shots and two aces. Keidra Kuenstler led in digs with 10 and had two aces. Morgan Hance and Sammie Craig had two aces each.
