Newton Hands EHS Loss, Altamont Beats T-town, Volleyball Roundup

In the lone Saturday contest in the area, Newton played host to Effingham in high school volleyball and sent the Hearts home with a 25-23, 25-12 loss.

 

The Eagles improved to 8-6 on the season. Leaders were B. Johnson with seven kills, Chapman with 11 assists, Parr with 11 digs and Kessler with two blocks.

Effingham was led by Megan Ballman with 12 assists, Morgan Hagler with nine digs, Jacy Boatman with five kills and Samantha Urch and Krista Phillips with two blocks each.

In the junior varsity match, Effingham was a winner, 25-18, 25-20.

Senior Night for the Hearts will be Tuesday against Mahomet-Seymour.

At Altamont

Altamont played host to Teutopolis and claimed both junior varsity and varsity wins Friday.

The Indians picked up the varsity victory, 25-21, 25-19 and improves to 14-2.

Mette led the squad in kills with nine and digs with 10. McManaway had 17 assists. Tappendorf led in blocks with two.

T-town was led by Carly Michels with five digs and seven kills, Sara Swingler with five aces and eight points and Hannah Rodgers with seven assists. The Wooden Shoes drop to 5-12.

In the junior varsity match, Atlamont claimed the win, 25-10, 25-17 and is 13-3.

In freshman play, T-town won the opener 26-24 and Altamont took the second set, 22-17.

Charleston tallied two wins over Dieterich Friday.

The Trojans won the varsity match, 25-6, 25-16.

Leading Dieterich were Emily Hall with four kills, Allison Schmidt with four assists and Kaitlyn Boerngen with seven digs.

In the junior varsity contest, Charleston won, 25-19, 25-20.
