Bulldogs, Indians, Hachets, Cardinals Claim Volleyball Wins

Effingham St. Anthony went two sets in taking a National Trail Conference volleyball win over Dieterich Thursday.

The Bulldogs had 25-18, 25-21 scores for the match win. Ada Rozene led St. A in kills with 12, Taylor Quandt had two aces and scored eight points. Kyra Swearingen had 25 assists and Kate Hartke led in points with nine.

Dieterich was led by Gabriella Hardiek and Iva Lilly with four kills each, Emily Bloemer with five assists, Kaitlyn Boerngen with two aces and Allie Poe with 11 digs.

The Bulldogs also nabbed the junior varsity match, 25-13, 25-14.

At St. Anthony

At Charleston

Effingham fell to Charleston in both junior varsity and varsity contests Thursday.

The Trojans claimed the varsity match, 25-13, 25-17.

Leading the Hearts in kills was Samantha Urch with four. Megan Ballman led in assists with six. Krista Phillips had four blocks. Mogan Hagler led in digs with 11.

In the junior varsity contest, Effingham was a winner, 25-22, 25-16.

EHS is back in action Saturday at Newton at 2 p.m.

At Farina

Altamont improved to 7-0 in the National Trail Conference and 13-2 overall with a victory over South Central Thursday.

The Indians won 25-12, 25-19. Mette led the squad in kills with eight. Pemberton had 11 digs. Eckhardt had two aces. McManaway led in blocks with three and assists with 17.

The Cougars were led by Halle Smith with eight kills, Madyson Magnus with seven assists, Sierra Arnold with 12 digs and Sydnee Garrett with one block.

South Central dropped to 9-5 overall.

in the junior varsity contest,  Altamont was a winner, 20-25, 25-23, 25-13 and stands at 6-1 in the conference, 12-3 overall. South Central dropped to 8-6 on the season.

The Indians took the freshman/sophomore match, 20-25, 25-16, 15-3. South Central falls to 7-4-1.

At Farina

At Strasburg

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg tallied a non-conference win over Cumberland Thursday.

The Hatchets went 25-22, 26-24 to improve to 11-2 on the season.

"Cumberland made us work hard for this win," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "They made it really hard to put the ball down."

Leading the winners were Gabby Vonderheide with seven kills and two aces, Jessica Rauch with 12 digs, Hannah Hayes with 17 assists and Halle Moomaw with one solo block and three block assists.

The Hatchets also claimed the junior varsity match, 26-24, 25-20 and is 13-0 on the season.

At Strasburg

At Louisville

North Clay (Louisville) played host to Neoga and picked up a National Trail Conference win in varsity play.

The Cardinals won the opener in a hard-fought 27-25 set. Neoga came back to win in another tough contest, 29-27. North Clay then took the final set for the match, 25-17.

Neoga was led by Andrea Burcham with 12 assists and 13 digs, Gracie Gresens with four blocks, Avery Fearday with 13 digs and Abby Hatton with 10 kills.

In the junior varsity match, Neoga was a winner, 25-16, 25-13.

At Louisville

Teutopolis dropped all three matches to Mahomet-Seymour Thursday.

In the varsity contest, Mahomet-Seymour tallied a 25-11, 25-17 win over the Wooden Shoes.

T-town was led by Lilly Jansen with three digs, Carly Michels and Emily Konkel with two kills each and Hannah Rodgers with six assists. T-town drops to 5-11 on the season.

In the junior varsity match, Mahomet-Seymour won 25-21, 29-27. The Bulldogs also nabbed the freshman match, 21-18, 21-7.

Newton fell to Robinson in three sets Thursday.

Robinson claimed the opener 25-16 but Newton came back to win 25-14. Robinson then claimed the match, 25-22. Newton drops to 7-6 on the season.

The Eagles were led by Ochs with 12 kills and three blocks, Schafer with 18 assists and B. Johnson with 11 digs.

In the junior varsity match, Robinson was a winner, 24-26, 25-19, 15-10.

Newton captured the freshman match, 25-18, 25-23.

Newton is back in action Saturday hosting Effingham at 2 p.m.

Clay City picked up victories over Cisne in competition Thursday.
