Hearts Drop Loss, Neoga, S. Central Win

LINCOLN -- Effingham High School fell to Lincoln in Apollo Conference volleyball action Tuesday evening.

The Railsplitters took the opener 25-20 but the Hearts came back with the second set 25-23. Lincoln then claimed the match, 25-17.

EHS was led by Samantha Urch with 13 kills and Jacy Boatman with 12. Tori Budde had 14 assists. Krista Phillips had five blocks. Morgan Hagler led in digs with 11. Kennedy Sowell had two aces.

In junior varsity play, Effingham was the winner 25-16, 23-25, 16-14.

The  Hearts are back in action Thursday at Charleston.

At Casey

Neoga picked up wins over Casey-Westfield in junior varsity and varsity play Tuesday.

The Indians claimed the varsity match, 25-16, 26-24. Andrea Burcham led the team in assists with 19. Gracie Gresens and Abbi Dow had three blocks each. Dow and Abby Hatton had five kills each.

In the junior varsity contest, Neoga won 25-23, 18-25, 15-12.

At Farina

South Central swept Patoka in three volleyball matches Tuesday.

The Cougars won the varsity contest, 25-16, 25-20 to improve to 9-4 on the season.

Thirteen seemed to be the number of the day. Leading South Central  in kills was Halle Smith with 13 and digs, also with 13. Madyson Magnus led the team in assists with 13.

In the junior varsity match, South Central lost the opener 26-24 but came back with 25-23, 26-24 wins for the match. The Cougars are now 8-5.

In the freshman/sophomore contest, South Central was a winner, 26-24, 25-11 and improved to 7-3-1.

At Farina

Teutopolis fell to Charleston in varsity action Tuesday.

The Trojans claimed the match, 25-19, 25-10.

Leading the Wooden Shoes were Lilly Jansen with nine digs, Carly Michels with seven kills. Hannah Rodgers had eight assists. T-town drops to 5-10.

In the junior varsity match, Charleston was a winner, 25-18, 20-25, 16-14.

The Shoes won the freshman match, 21-18, 21-19.

The Shoes will play host to Mahomet-Seymour Thursday.

Dieterich fell to Hutsonville/Palestine in varsity action Tuesday.

The Movin' Maroons lost, 25-23, 25-14. Gabriella Hardiek, Emily Bloemer and Emily Hall had three kills each. Allison Schmidt and Bloemer had four assists each. Bloemer also led in aces with two. Kaitlyn Boerngen led in digs with 15. Hardiek and Ruby Westendorf had one block each.

In the junior varsity match, Dieterich was a winner, 21-25, 25-10, 26-24.

Clay City fell to Woodlawn in varsity competition Tuesday.

The Wolves lost 25-13, 25-7. Morgan Hance led in kills with eight. Taylor Pittman had four aces.
