EHS, Altamont, Newton Claim Volleyball Wins

Effingham High School handed Mattoon a loss in three sets in volleyball action Monday.

The Green Wave took the opener 25-23 but the Hearts came back with 25-22, 25-22 victories for the match.

Jacy Boatman led the Hearts' attack with 12 kills and 13 digs. Megan Ballman took the lead in assists with 14. Ballman, Boatman and Samantha Urch had one ace each. Boatman and Katt had two blocks each.

In the junior varsity match, Mattoon won 25-15, 18-25, 15-8.

The Hearts claimed the freshman/sophomore match, 21-11, 21-19.

EHS returns to action today at Taylorville.

At Effingham

At St. Anthony

Decatur St. Teresa came callnig and downed St. Anthony in varsity competition Monday.

St. Teresa was a winner 25-16, 25-13.

Leading St .Anthony were Taylor Ritz with five kills, one ace and four points; Kyra Swearingen with 11 assists; Ada Rozene with two blocks and Kate Hartke with one ace.

In the junior varsity match, St. Teresa won the opener 25-17 but St. Anthony came back for the match win, 25-14, 26-24.

The Bulldogs also claimed the freshman contest, 25-19, 25-17.

At Clinton

Altamont swept Clinton in both varsity and junior varsity action Monday.

The Indians claimed the varsity match, 25-19, 25-17 to improve to 8-2 on the season.

Mette and Runge led Altamont in kills with five each. Mette also led in the digs category with six and Runge in blocks with three. Eckhardt also had six digs. McManaway led in assists with 19.

In the junior varsity contest, Altamont was a winner 25-17, 25-19 to improve to 7-3.

At Clinton

At Casey

Newton called on Casey-Westfield and nabbed victories in junior varsity and varsity action Monday.

The Eagles won the varsity match, 25-9, 25-23 to improve to 4-5.

Chapman led the squad in aces with three and assists with 20. Ochs had nine kills. B. Johnson led in digs with seven.

In the junior varsity match, Newton was a winner 25-9, 25-23.

Casey-Westfield nabbed the freshman/sophomore match, 25-20, 25-22.

Newton will play host to Lawrenceville Thursday during Senior Night festivities.

At Champaign

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg fell victim to Champaign Central Monday.

Central claimed the opener 25-15. The Hatchets came back to take the second set, 25-22. Central then claimed the match, 25-10.

"The girls have a lot to be proud of considering who we were playing," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "Champaign Central had some outstanding players. I felt we played them timid and made several errors that should not have happened. This was a game to show us what we need to work on still."

Jessica Rauch led in aces with three, Hannah Hayes had five kills, Lexi Domzalski led in assists with nine and Ella Kinkelaar led in digs with six. The Hatchets drop to 6-2 on the season.

Windsor/Stew-Stras claimed the junior varsity contest, 25-19, 25-19 to remain unbeaten at 8-0.

At Champaign
