Altamont, S. Central, Neoga, WSS Nab Volleyball Wins

TUSCOLA -- Altamont High School handed host Tuscola a loss in volleyball action Tuesday.

The Indians won in two sets, 25-19, 25-21 to improve to 7-2 on the season.

Leading the victory were Mette with five kills and eight digs, McManaway with 18 assists, Pemberton and Eckhardt with six digs each and Tappendorf with two blocks.

Altamont also nabbed the junior varsity match. Tuscola claimed the opener 25-16 but Altamont came back with 25-14, 25-11 scores and improved to 6-3 on the season.

At Farina

South Central now owns a 5-3 record after handing Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City a loss as two National Trail Conference teams faced each other Tuesday.

The Cougars won 25-9, 25-11 to improve to 5-3 on the season. Leading the squad in kills was Halle Smith with 11. Madyson Magnus was the assist leader with 12. Leading in aces was Sydnee Garrett with eight and digs with 10. Magnus had one block.

CHBC claimed the junior varsity match, 27-25, 25-20. South Central's JV fell to 4-4.

In the freshman/sophomore contest, South Central picked up the victory, 25-14, 25-7 to improve to 4-2-1.

South Central is back in action today at Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran.

At Neoga

Neoga put together victories in both junior varsity and varsity action Tuesday.

The Indians played host to Ramsey and fell in the opening contest, 25-22. But Neoga came back with 25-22, 25-15 victories for the match win.

Abbi Dow led in kills with five and had three blocks for Neoga. Andrea Burcham led the Indians in assists with 10 while Avery Fearday had six digs.

Neoga also nabbed the junior varsity contest, 25-4, 25-15.

At Strasburg

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg improved to 6-1 on the season with a non-conference victory over Sullivan Tuesday evening.

The Hatchets won in two sets, 25-17, 25-18. Lexi Domzalski and Ella Kinkelaar led in aces with two each. Hannah Hayes and Gabby Vonderheide had six kills each. The assists lead went to Domzalski with 13. H. Hayes led in digs with eight.

"The girls had another good night," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "They are working hard on the corrections we've been talking about."

Windsor/Stew-Stras also nabbed the junior varsity contest, 25-16, 25-16 and is now a perfect 7-0.

Teutopolis traveled to Mount Zion and fell to the homestanders in two sets, 25-20, 25-10.

Abby Niemerg led the Wooden Shoes in blocks with two. Carly Michels led in kills with six and Emily Konkel had four digs. Hannah Rodgers led in points with six. The Wooden Shoes dropped to 3-6 on the season.

In the junior varsity match, Mount Zion was a winner, 25-19, 25-21.

St. Elmo/Brownstown dropped a non-conference contest to Oblong Tuesday.

Oblong claimed the opener 25-19 but SEB came back with a 26-24 win. Oblong then claimed the match, 25-18.

SEB was led by Morgan Hall in kills with seven and points with nine. Peyton Garrard led in assists with 13 and aces with three. Lydia Smith led in digs with 11.

Paris came calling and picked up victories over Dieterich Tuesday evening.

Paris won the varsity contest, 25-13, 25-14.

Dietreich was led by Iva Lilly in kills with five, Emily Bloemer in assists with six and digs with nine and Breanna Hull in aces with two.

The Tigers also claimed the junior varsity contest, 25-19, 25-20.

At Shelbyville

Shelbyville tallied a non-conference victory over Newton Tuesday evening.

The Rams won the varsity match, 25-11, 25-18.

Newton was led by Schafer in assists with 11, Einhorn in digs with 10, Chapman in aces with two and Ochs and B. Johnson in kills with four each. The Eagles fall to 3-5 on the season.

Shelbyville was led by Carli Canada with 21 points, Chloe Watson with 17 assists and 10 digs, Mia Wade and Mal Holland with seven kills each, Holland with four blocks and Lexi Rohdemann with 10 digs.

"We came out tonight fired up and ready to play," said Shelbyville Coach Jamie Watson. "We were able to keep our momentum through the first set. The second set we let up some but we were able to keep the lead and finish strong. Now to be able to continue playing each match with the confidence and momentum, that we had tonight will be a key focus of future practices."

The Rams improved to 7-0.

The Rams also nabbed the junior varsity match, 25-15, 23-25, 15-11. The two teams split in freshman action with Shelbyville winning 25-18 and  Newton winning 26-24.

Clay City traveled to Grayville and lost to the host squad in varsity action, 25-23, 25-18.

Leading Clay City were Hailey Miller with six kills and 12 hits and Sammie Craig with six kills and 11 hits.
