EHS, WSS Fall, Altamont Wins In Volleyball

MOUNT ZION -- Effingham High School dropped an Apollo Conference volleyball match to Mount Zion Saturday

The Braves won the opener 25-16 before the Hearts came back with a 25-20 victory. Mount Zion then took the match, 25-17.

EHS was led by Brueklyn Belcher and Kenney Sowell with four kills each, Tori Budde with seven assists, Samantha Urch and Annie Frost with two blocks each and Sawyer Althoff with eight digs.

At Robinson

Altamont tallied a varsity win over Robinson Saturday.

The Indians won 25-16, 25-17 to improve to 5-2 on the season.

McManaway had 22 assists for the Indians. Mette led in digs with 12. Runge led in kills with eight.  Eckhardt had four aces.

In the junior varsity contest, Robinson was a winner, 25-20, 31-29. Altamont drops to 4-3 on the season.

At Shelbyville

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg fell to Shelbyville in three sets Saturday.

The Rams won the opener 25-18 before WSS came back with a 25-22 win. Shelbyville then claimed the match 25-13. Kya McConnell led in points with 22. Chloe Watson had 17 assists, 12 kills and 10 digs. Mia Wade and Madi Cisne had two blocks each.

The Rams are now 4-0 on the season.

"Today's match was extremely hard fought by both teams," said Coach Jamie Watson. "It was nice to see that competition. This is by far our best competition of this season. My girls came out strong and were very aggressive at the net. We let up a little bit and let the second set slip away. Overall, we played an awesome match."

Windsor/Stew-Stras dropped to 4-1 on the season. Lexi Domzalski led in assists with 17 for the Hatcherts. Jessica Rauch had 18 digs, Hannah Hayes seven kills and Domzalski, Ella Kinkelaar and Gabby Vonderheide in aces with two each.

"I knew today would be a tough one," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "My goal was to take them three if we had to take a loss. We broke everything down at practice but we just couldn't deliver on the court. The girls put up a good fight though and this will only help us in the future."

Windsor/Stew-Stras won the junior varsity contest, 25-20, 25-19 to improve to 5-0. Shelbyville claimed the freshman/sophomore match, 23-25, 25-13, 15-8. WSS dropped to 3-1.
