Effingham St. Anthony and Teutopolis were both winners in junior high volleyball action Thursday.

 

The Wooden Shoes claimed the seventh-grade match, 25-22, 25-14 to improve to 6-5 on the season. Leading the Shoes were Allie Ruholl with three assists and Olivia  Kemme with five aces and four kills.

In the eighth-grade contest, St. Anthony was a winner, 25-20, 25-19.

T-town was led by Kayleigh Zerrusen and Ella Wermert with two aces each, Sara Zumbahlen with five assists and Paige Swingler with four kills.

At Taylorville

Effingham split wins with Taylorville Thursday.

The Mustangs won the seventh-grade match. Effingham picked up the opener 25-7 before Taylorville won 25-14. The Mustangs then won the match 25-17.

Alyssa Martin led in kills with 10 and blocks with two for the Mustangs. Berkley Pullen had six aces and seven assists. Averie Wolf led in digs with seven.

In eighth-grade action, Taylorville won in two sets, 25-16, 25-19.

Effingham was led in kills by Sidney Donaldson, Bria Beals and Saige Althoff with three each. Hannah Thompson had nine assists. Jerzi Bierman led in digs with five. Beals had two aces.

At Effingham

Effingham Sacred Heart and South Central claimed a victory each Thursday.

The Shamrocks won the seventh-grade match, 25-15, 25-13.

In eighth-grade action, Sacred Heart took the opener 28-26 but South Central came back to win 25-23, 25-22.

 

At Beecher City

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City swept Ramsey in volleyball action Thursday.

The Bobcats won the seventh-grade contest, 25-20, 25-17. Brynlie Pope led in points with seven, aces with four and assists with three. Gabby Wakefield had two kills.

"The seventh-graders have come far this short season," said CHBC Coach Angela Jefferies. "Last night they worked really hard to get their three hits in. I am looking forward to seeing them progress even more."

In eighth-grade play, CHBC claimed a 25-14, 25-18 win,

Addison Wasson had 12 points for the winners while Macee Rodman had five aces and five assists. Kyleigh Linder led in kills with seven and had two digs as did Rodman.

"The eighth-grade team played some great volleyball last night," said Jefferies. "Their communication has improved and all of the players worked together for the win."

At Beecher City

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City -- Rodman, 7 points, 5 aces, 5 assists, 3 kills, 2 digs; Wasson, 12 points, 4 aces, 1 kill; Linder, 5 points, 1 ace, 1 assist, 7 kills 1 block, 2 digs; Parks, 1 dig; Thompson, 3 assists; Cedar, 3 points, 1 dig; Parks, 1 point; Miller, 2 points, 1 assist, 2 kills, 1 block

 

At Louisville

Stewardson-Strasburg claimed two victories over North Clay (Louisville) Thursday.

The seventh-grade was a winner in two sets, 25-18, 25-15. Stew-Stras improved to 8-2.

Claire Holland had four aces for the winners. Kendra Hayes had five assists. Aubree Antrim led in kills with three.

In the eighth-grade match, Stew-Stras won the opener 25-15 but North Clay came back for the second set, 25-18. Stew-Stras then took the match 25-6.

Samantha Hayes led in aces with eight and assists with 10. Ellie Wittenberg had six kills. Kinley Quast led in digs with six.

At Louisville

At Newton

Jasper County downed Robinson in both matches Thursday.

Jasper County picked up the seventh-grade contest, 29-27 then fell 25-19 before winning the match 25-17 to improve to 7-1.

I. Meinhart led in aces with nine, kills with five and assists with five.

In the eighth-grade contest, Newton won 25-17, 25-15 and remains unbeaten at 8-0.

Mulvey, Kinder and Collins had two aces each. Kinder and K. Martin led in kills with four each. Mulvey had seven assists. K. Martin had three digs.
