Effingham Sacred Heart and Altamont split victories in junior high volleyball competition Thursday.
The seventh-grade contest went three sets. Altamont claimed the opener 25-19 before the Shamrocks took the second set 25-19. Sacred Heart then won the match with a 16-14 score.
Altamont dropped to 3-6 overall and 3-4 in the National Trail Conference.
In the eighth-grade match, Altamont won 25-12, 25-22 and improved to 6-1 in the conference, 7-2 overall.

At St. Anthony
Effingham downed Effingham St. Anthony twice Thursday evening.
The Mustangs claimed the seventh-grade match, 25-21, 25-15 to improve to 7-1 on the season.
In eighth-grade action, Effingham was a 25-15, 25-22 winner. The Mustangs are now 5-2.
EJHS is back in action Saturday at Charleston with the eighth-grade contest first at 10 a.m. followed by the seventh-grade match.

Stewardson-Strasburg's seventh-grade volleyball team downed Dieterich Thursday.
Stew-Stras was a winner, 25-7, 25-14 and now sports a 7-2 record.
In the eighth-grade matchup, Stew-Stras claimed victory in two sets, 25-13, 25-14. Stew-Stras remains unbeaten with a 9-0 record.

Teutopolis tallied victories over Charleston in junior high volleyball action Thursday.
The Wooden Shoes won the seventh-grade contest, 25-23, 25-22 to improve to 3-5 on the season.
In eighth-grade competition, T-town won the opener 25-16 but Charleston took the second set, 25-17. T-town then won the match, 25-9 and is now also 3-5.
T-town is back in action Saturday at Mattoon at 10 a.m.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City downed Windsor in both seventh- and eighth-grade action Thursday.
In the seventh-grade contest, CHBC was a winner, 25-23, 26-24.
"The girls played a remarkable game considering they were short a couple of players," said CHBC Coach Angela Jefferies. "Even though it wasn't quite what they were used to, they were able to do what was needed. They played and served consistently."
In eighth-grade action, the Bobcats won 25-19, 25-14.
"The girls are learning to communicate so much better but still need to work on speaking out," said Coach Jefferies. "While they lost focus a couple of times, they played some great volleyball and were able to take the win."
