Volleyball Eighth-Grade Regionals -- March 7

Effingham moved into the championship of its own Class 8-4A volleyball regional with a victory Saturday.
In opening round action, Mattoon defeated Charleston, 25-23, 25-16. The second match went to Mount Zion over Stephen Decatur, 25-11, 25-20.
In the second round, Effingham, seeded second, downed Mount Zion, 25-14, 25-21.
Mattoon, seeded fifth, was an upset winner over top-seeded Taylorville, 27-25, 25-18.
Effingham and Mattoon will meet for the regional championshp at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Class 8-4A Effingham Regional
Effingham -- Ballman, 1 assist, 8 digs; Boone, 3 kills, 5 assists, 2 aces, 2 digs; Katt, 3 kills, 1 assist, 1 ace, 1 dig; Borton, 3 digs; O'Dell, 1 kill, 6 aces, 4 digs; McCoy, 2 kills, 2 aces
Class 8-1A Sigel St. Michael Regional
Sigel St. Michael will be playing for the championship of its own Class 8-1A Volleyball Regional after Saturday's action.
In the opening two matches, Effingham Sacred Heart downed Stewardson-Strasburg. The Shamrocks won 25-22 before Stew-Stras claimed the second set 25-12. Sacred Heart then won the match, 25-18.
Newton St. Thomas took the second match over Grayville. Grayville claimed the opener 25-18 before St. Thomas came back to win the match, 25-23, 25-16.
Sacred Heart advanced to face top-seeded St. Michael. The Sharpshooters were the winners, 25-15, 25-9.
St. Thomas then advanced to take on West Salem and fell, 25-18, 25-16.
St. Michael will meet West Salem at 6 p.m. Tuesday for the regional title.
Class 8-1A Decatur Our Lady of Lourdes Regional
The lone area team in this regional fell in opening round action Saturday.
Windsor dropped its match to Decatur Our Lady of Lourdes, 25-22, 25-16.
In the other first round matches, Bement won over Decatur Garfield Montessori, 25-9, 25-27, 25-12. and Decatur Lutheran defeated Mattoon St. John's, 26-24, 25-12.
Bement will face Decatur Holy Family at 6 p.m. Tuesday while Decatur Lutheran squares off against Decatur Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School at 7:15.
Class 8-2A St. Elmo/Brownstown Regional
St. Elmo/Brownstown and Neoga claimed victories in opening round play of the SEB Regional Saturday.
St. Elmo/Brownstown defeated South Central, 25-22, 20-25, 25-22.
The second match went to Findlay Okaw Valley over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 25-7, 25-8.
The final match of the day was claimed by Neoga, 25-18, 25-20.
SEB will now meet top-seeded Effingham St. Anthony at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday while Neoga takes on Findlay Okaw Valley at 6:30.
Class 8-2A St. Elmo/Brownstown Regional
Altamont -- Grunloh, 1 ace, 8 digs; Reardon, 2 aces, 4 digs; Klein, 1 kill, 4 aces, 2 digs; Splector, 1 ace, 1 dig, 1 assist; Hollinshead, 1 kill, 1 ace; Streuenagel, 1 kill
Class 8-2A Edwards County (Albion) Regional
North Clay will be playing for the championship of the Edwards County Regional after competition Saturday.
In opening round matches, Oblong downed Hutsonville/Palestine, 25-19, 25-20.
In the second match, Dieterich won over Maritnsville, 25-13, 25-11.
In second round play, Albion downed Oblong, 25-12, 25-17 and North Clay won over Martinsville, 25-23, 25-12.
North Clay will meet Edwards County at 6:15 p.m. Thursday for the regional championship.
Class 8-3A Teutopolis Regional
Teutopolis advanced in its own regional with a win Saturday.
The Wooden Shoes defeated Tuscola East Prairie, 25-14, 25-14 and improves to 14-10 on the season.
In the opening match, Cumberland won over Sullivahn, 25-12, 9-25, 25-18.
The second match went to Macon Meridian over Athur, 25-12, 25-21.
Cumberland now faces top-seeded Shelbyville Moulton at 6 p.m. Tuesday while T-town takes on Macon Meridian at 7.
Class 8-3A Teutopolis Regional
Teutopolis -- Niemerg, 1 ace, 3 assists, 2 kills, 1 block; Einhorn, 1 assist, 5 kills, 1 block; Pals, 2 aces, 5 kills; Probst, 1 ace, 3 assists; Frey, 4 aces; Copple, 4 aces; Zerrusen, 1 kill, 1 block
Class 8-3A Casey-Westfield Regional
Jasper County advanced after opening round play Saturday in the Casey-Westfield Regional.
Jasper County won over Paris Mayo, 25-14, 25-9.
Jasper County now faces Casey-Westfield at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
In the opening match, Lawrenceville Parkview downed Marshall, 25-22, 25-17.
Lawrenceville Parkview will now meet Robinson Nuttall at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Class 8-3A Casey-Westfield Regional
Jasper County -- Barthelmy, 4 aces, 3 kills; Grove, 4 aces, 7 kills, 1 block; Schafer, 3 aces, 10 assists, 2 digs; Kessler, 3 aces, 3 kills, 1 assist, 1 block; Zumbahlen, 2 aces; Shamhart, 1 kill; Finn, 2 aces
At Clay City
Clay City picked up victories over Odin Friday.
Clay City won the seventh-grade match, 25-12, 25-10.
Clay City then downed Odin, 25-20, 25-13 in eighth-grade play. Clay City is now 13-1 on the season.
In a C contest, Clay City was a winner, 25-17, 25-11.
