Junior High Volleyball -- Feb. 28-29

TAYLORVILLE -- Effingham Junior High School moved into the championship match of the Class 7-4A Taylorville Volleyball Regional Saturday.

In the opening match, Mattoon downed Charleston, 25-20, 17-25, 25-10. Mount Zion then defeated Stephen Decatur, 25-9, 25-11.

Mattoon advanced to face top-seeded Taylorville. Taylorville came out the winner, 25-17, 25-23.

Effingham, seeded second, then defeated Mount Zion, 25-16, 25-14.

The Mustangs will now take on Taylorville at 6 p.m. today for the regional title.

Class 3A Macon Meridian Regional

Teutopolis saw its season come to a close in the Class 3A Macon Meridian Regional Saturday.

T-town fell to Shelbyville Moulton, 25-10, 25-12. The Wooden Shoes end the season with an 8-13 record.

In the second match, Cumberland downed Sullivan, 25-16, 25-17.

Arthur then won over Tuscola East Prairie, 26-24, 25-17.

Today's matches find Shelbyville Moulton taking on top-seeded Macon Meridian at 6 p.m. followed by Cumberland against Arthur at 7 p.m.

Stewardson-Strasburg and Newton St. Thomas advanced to the championship match of the Sigel St. Michael Regional Saturday.

In the opening match, St. Michael defeated Effingham Sacred Heart, 21-25, 25-17, 26-24.

Newton St. Thomas then won over Grayville, 25-10, 22-25, 25-9.

In the second round, top-seeded Stewardson-Strasburg defeated St. Michael, 25-15, 25-18.

St. Thomas then won over second-seeded West Salem, 25-10, 25-18.

Stew-Stras and St. Thomas meet Thursday for the regional championship at 6 p.m.

Class 7-2A Effingham St. Anthony Regional

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City picked up a victory in the St. Anthony Regional Saturday.

CHBC downed Neoga, 25-20, 25-23.

In the second match, Altamont won over South Central, 25-10, 25-21.

St. Anthony then defeated St. Elmo/Browntown, 25-19, 21-26, 25-18.

CHBC will face top-seeded Findlay Okaw Valley at 6 p.m. today followed by second-seeded Atlamont against St. Anthony at 7.

Class 7-2A Edwards County (Albion) Regional

Diteerich picked up a first match victory in the Edwards County Regional Saturday.

Dieterich downed Hutsonville/Palestine, 15-25, 25-8, 25-20.

In the second match, Martinsville won over Oblong, 25-11, 25-22.

Edwards County then defeated Dieterich, 25-11, 25-17.

North Clay (Louisville) won over Maritnsville, 25-17, 17-25, 25-18.

Edwards County faces North Clay at 6:15 p.m. Thursday for the regional crown.

Marshall and Robinson Nuttall advanced to the final four of the Paris Mayo Regional Saturday.

Marshall defeated Paris Mayo, 20-25, 26-24, 25-23.

In the second match, Robinson Nuttall won over Lawrencville Parkview, 25-19, 28-26.

Marshall now faces top-seeded Jasper County at 6 p.m. Tuesday followed by second-seeded Casey-Westfield against Robinson Nuttall at 7:15 p.m.

Jasper County picked up both seventh and eighth-grade wins in Friday action.

Jasper County defeated Dieterich in the seventh-grade contest, 25-15, 25-17.

In eighth-grade action, Jasper County was a winner, 25-8, 25-11.

In the sixth-grade match, Dieterich won 25-23.
