Effingham St. Anthony and Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City split junior high volleyball victories Thursday.

 

CHBC was a winner in the seventh-grade matchup. CHBC took the opener 25-19. St. Anthony came back with a 25-19 victory. CHBC then won the match, 25-12.

St. Anthony will host a seventh-grade regional Saturday and will meet St. Elmo/Brownstown around 11 a.m. CHBC is in the same regional and will face Neoga at 9 a.m.

In eighth-grade play, the Bullpups took the match in two sets, 25-7, 25-15.

At Cowden

Seventh-Grade Match

At Toledo

Effingham improved in both seventh and eighth-grade play with victories over Cumberland Thursday.

The Mustangs took the seventh-grade match, 25-19, 25-21 to improve to 19-2 on the season. The squad will compete in regional action Saturday at Taylorville, taking on the winner of the second match, either Mount Zion or Stephen Decatur, at 12:45 p.m.

In eighth-grade play, Effingham was a winner, 25-17, 11-25, 25-14 and is now 15-7.

At Newton

Teutopolis and Newton St. Thomas split wins Thursday.

T-town was a 25-22, 25-7 winner in the seventh-grade contest to improve to 8-12 on the season. The Wooden Shoes will be back in action Saturday in the Macon Meridian Regional, facing Shelbyville Moulton at 10 a.m.

In the eighth-grade contest, St. Thomas won the opener 25-16. T-town took the second set 25-15. St. Thomas then won the match 25-20. The Wooden Shoes fell to 13-10 on the season.

At Newton

At Clay City

Clay City captured the championship of the WEAA Conference Tournament Thursday.

In first round matches, Clay City defeated Allendale, 25-5, 25-5 while New Hope won over Mount Carmel St. Mary's, 25-18, 25-21. Jasper/Geff then defeated Cisne, 25-11, 24-16, 15-8 and West Salem beat Grayville, 25-8, 25-23.

In semifinal matches, Clay City downed New Hope, 25-6, 25-12 while Jasper/Geff won over West Salem, 25-17, 12-25, 15-5.

The championship match then went to Clay City over Jasper/Geff, 25-16, 25-7.

 

At Robinson

Jasper County and Robinson Nuxoll tallied a win each in action Thursday.

Jasper County claimed the seventh-grade match, 25-20, 25-16 and is now 18-2 on the season.

Jasper County's seventh-grade squad will be back in action Tuesday, March 3 in the Class 7-3A Paris Mayo Regional at 6 p.m. against the winner of the Marshall vs. Paris Mayo contest.

In eighth-grade competition, Robinson Nuttall won over Jasper County, 25-15, 25-17.

North Clay tallied two wins over Neoga in Thursday action.

North Clay was a 25-13, 25-22 winner in seventh-grade play.

In the eighth-grade contest, North Clay won 25-23, 25-21.

 

At St. Elmo

St. Elmo/Brownstown and Dieterich split wins in Thursday competition.

Dieterich won the seventh-grade match, 30-28, 25-23.

In eighth-grade play, SEB was the winner, 25-14, 25-19.

SEB won the sixth-grade match, 10-25, 25-19, 32-21.
