The Mustangs fell in the opening set of seventh-grade play, 25-18 but came back with 25-23, 25-14 scores for the match.
Effingham improved to 18-2 on the season.
In the eighth-grade match, Effingham won the opener 25-22. Mattoon took the second set 26-24. Effingham won the match 25-22 and improved to 14-7 on the season.
The Mustangs will be back in action Thursday at Cumberland.

Effingham Sacred Heart and Mattoon St. John's Lutheran School split victories Tuesday evening.
St. John's claimed the seventh-grade match, 25-14, 25-20.
In eighth-grade play, the Shamrocks were the winners, 25-12, 25-8.

Stewardson Trinity Lutheran picked up two victories over Teutopolis in Tuesday competition.
Trinity Lutheran won the seventh-grade match, 25-20, 25-13. T-town dropped to 7-12 on the season.
In eighth-grade play, Trinity downed T-town, 25-7, 25-13. The Wooden Shoes fell to 13-9.
T-town is back in action Thursday against Newton St. Thomas.

Altamont won the seventh-grade match, 25-22, 25-9. Altamont improved to 9-2 in the National Trail Conference and 14-5 overall.
In the eighth-grade contest, Altamont was a 25-18, 25-19 winner. Altamont is 2-9 in the conference, 3-16 overall.

Jasper County was a winner in seventh and eighth-grade action Tuesday.
In the seventh-grade match, Jasper County was a 25-14, 25-18 winner and improved to 17-2 on the season.
The eighth-grade squad moved its record to 11-8 with 25-8, 25-17 victories.

At Cisne
Clay City captured two victories over Cisne in competition Thursday.
Clay City was a winner in the seventh-grade match. Clay City won the opener 25-21. Cisne came back with a 25-7 second set. Clay City won the match, 15-11.
In eighth-grade competition, Clay City won 25-13, 25-7 and is now 7-1 on the season and 4-0 in WEAA Conference play.
In a C contest, Cisne won 25-23 while Clay City won 25-19.
Clay City is back in action Thursday hosting the WEAA Conference Tournament. Clay City will meet Allendale at 4 p.m. in the new gym.
At Louisville
Jasper-Geff tallied two victories over North Clay (Louisville) in junior high volleyball action Tuesday.
Jasper-Geff was a winner in seventh-grade play, 22-25, 25-13, 15-9.
In the eighth-grade match, Jasper-Geff won 25-23, 22-25, 21-19.
