North Clay (Louisville) won the championship of the National Trail Conference Eighth-Grade Girls Volleyball Tournament Saturday.

In opening round play Saturday, Sigel St. Michael defeated St. Elmo/Brownstown, 26-24, 25-14 while Neoga downed Windsor, 25-23, 25-17. North Clay handed Stewardson-Strasburg a 25-17, 25-19 loss. Effingham Sacred Heart won over Altamont, 25-9, 25-23.

In the semifinals, St. Michael won over Neoga, 25-16, 25-21 and North Clay downed Sacred Heart, 25-12, 25-17.

The championship match went to North Clay over Sigel St. Michael, 25-18, 25-14.

Third place was taken by Sacred Heart over Neoga, 25-19, 25-16.

In the consolation bracket, St. Elmo/Brownstown defeated Windsor, 19-25, 25-17, 15-13 while Stew-Stras downed Altamont 25-17, 25-13. The consolation championship went to Stewardson-Strasburg over St. Elmo/Brownstown, 25-16, 25-19.

 

At Effingham

In the Effingham Crossroads Clasic Eighth-Grade Tournament Saturday, Effingham St. Anthony placed first in the Silver Flight.

The Bulldogs defeated Edwards County (Albion) in pool play, 25-19, 25-17 then fell to Massac County, 27-25, 25-21. In the semifinal, St. Anthony won over Murphysboro, 25-22, 25-23.

Effingham fell to Hartsburg, 25-15, 25-14 then defeated Grayville, 25-12, 25-18. The Mustangs won over West Salem, 25-15, 25-19.

Effingham and St. Anthony then squared off for the Silver Flight and the Bullpups won, 25-22, 25-17.

At Charleston

Teutopolis competed in the Charleston Eighth-Grade Tournament Saturday and picked up one victory and suffered two losses.

In the opener, Charleston won over the Wooden Shoes, 25-16, 25-21.

In the second match, T-town was a 25-18, 25-16 winner over Mattoon.

The third contest went to Champaign Jefferson, 22-25, 25-21, 15-14.

In a Friday match, Shelbyville Moulton captured two victories over T-town.

Moulton claimed the seventh-grade match, 25-20, 25-5.

In eighth-grade play, Shelbyville Moulton was a 25-16, 25-23 winner. The Shoes are now 13-7 on the season.

T-town will play host to Sigel St. Michael tonight.

Dieterich and Neoga split victories in Friday action.

Neoga claimed the seventh-grade match, 25-19, 25-22.

In eighth-grade play, Dieterich won the opener 25-19. Neoga took the second set 25-13. Dieterich then won the match 25-23.

In a sixth-grade contest, Neoga won the opener 25-17 and Dieterich claimed the second set 19-14.
