Altamont, WSS, C'land Win Regional Volleyball Titles

CERRO GORDO -- Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg claimed the championship of the Class 1A Cerro Gordo Volleyball Regional Thursday.

Seventh-seeded WSS handed fifth-seeded Moweaqua Central A&M a loss in two sets, 25-10, 25-21.

"The girls came out strong in the first set," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "I'm proud of how they handled the second set. We had an injury and we had to make who was on the floor work .They kept their heads on and pushed on."

WSS was led by Mackinzee Reynolds with eight kills, a solo block and two block assists, Hannah Hayes with 17 assists, Jessica Rauch with nine digs and Brianna Hewing with two aces and three block assists.

WSS improved to 24-14 on the season and will now face Cumberland at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Windsor/Stew-Stras Regional.

Class 1A Cerro Gordo Regional

Class 1A Casey-Westfield Regional

Cumberland was proclaimed the champion of the Casey-Westfield Regional Thursday.

The second-seeded Pirates downed fifth-seeded Hutsonville/Palestine, 25-15, 25-19.

Tayler McMechan had 11 assists while Madison Hendrix led in kills with five. Zoe Mtichell had two blocks and two aces. Ivy Ayers led in digs with eight.

The Pirates improve to 17-15 and will now meet Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Windsor/Stew-Stras Regional.

Class 1A Casey-Westfield Regional

Cumberland -- Bradley, 4 assists, 1 ace, 3 digs; McMechan, 11 assists, 3 kills, 1 ace, 4 digs; Hendrix, 5 kills, 1 block, 1 dig; Mitchell, 2 kills, 2 blocks, 2 aces, 3 digs; Ayers, 8 digs; Yaw, 4 kills, 6 digs; Taylor, 4 kills, 1 ace, 6 digs; Thornton, 3 assists, 1 kill, 1 dig

 

Class 1A South Central Regional

Altamont handed host South Central a loss in the championship match of the South Central Regional Thursday.

Altamont won in two sets, 25-21, 25-19. The Indians were led by Mette with 11 kills and eight digs, McManaway with 22 assists and a block, Pemberton with eight digs, Tappendorf with a block and Runge with a block.

The Indians (29-7-1) move into the Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg Regional where they will face Kansas at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

Kansas won its own regional over Bethany Okaw Valley, 25-15, 25-17.

Class 1A South Central Regional

Altamont -- Jackman, 6 kills, 2 digs; McManaway, 2 digs, 1 block, 22 assists; Pemberton, 4 kills, 8 digs, 1 assist; Tappendorf, 3 kills, 1 ace, 1 dig, 1 block, 1 assist; Mette, 11 kills, 8 digs, 2 assists; Eckhardt, 4 digs; Runge, 2 kills, 1 block

 

Class 3A Charleston Regional

Effingham fell in the championship match of the Charleston Regional to the host Trojans but the Hearts made a match of it Thursday.

The top-seeded Charleston squad won the opener 25-16 but Effingham fought back to take the second set, 25-18. The Trojans then claimed the match, 25-14.

EHS was led by Alexis Chrappa with 12 kills, Hayley Dively with 11 assists and two aces, Jacy Boatman and Olivia Martin with 11 digs each and Kennedy Sowell and Sam Urch with two blocks each.

The Hearts end the season with an 18-18 record.

Charleston moves into the Waterloo Sectional Monday where it will face host Waterloo at 6:30 p.m. Waterloo won the Bethalto Civic Memorial Regional with a 15-25, 25-17, 25-23 win over Taylorville.

In the opening match Monday, East St. Louis Senior takes on Centralia at 5:30. ESL Senior won the Troy Triad Regional by downing Mascoutah, 27-25, 25-17 while Centralia won the Herrin Regional with a 25-10, 25-8 victory over the host squad.

Class 3A Charleston Regional

Effingham -- Angel, 5 assists; Montgomery,  dig, 1 block; O'Dell, 2 assists; Dively, 1 kill, 11 assists, 2 aces, 1 dig, 1 block; Chrappa, 12 kills, 6 digs; Sowell, 2 kills, 2 blocks; Urch, 3 kills, 2 blocks; Boatman, 2 kills, 1 assist, 11 digs, 1 block; Feldhake, 3 digs, 1 block; Martin, 1 assist, 11 digs

 

Class 2A Robinson Regional

Newton saw its outstanding season come a close in the Robinson Regional Thursday.

The top-seeded Eagles fell to No. 4 Shelbyville, 25-20, 25-18 to end the season with a 28-9 record.

Leading Newton were Hemrich and Probst with one ace each, Jansen with six kills, Geltz with 15 digs and Hemrich tallied 18 assists.

Shelbyville will now face Metropoils Massac County Monday at 5:30 p.m. in the Salem Sectional. In the second match Monday, Fairfield takes on Pana at 6:30.

Pana downed Paris 25-23, 25-19 in the Teutopolis Regional while Fairfield won the West Frankfort Regional by defeating Benton, 25-13, 25-13.

Class 2A Robinson Regional
