City Teams Fall, Area Volleyball Roundup

Altamont picked up a varsity volleyball win over Effingham St. Anthony in high school action Tuesday.

The Indians won 25-17, 25-20.

St. Anthony was led by Ada Rozene with four kills and four points, Taylor Ritz led in aces with three. Lucy Fearday had two blocks. Kyra Swearingen led in assists with seven.

The Bulldogs claimed the junior varsity match, 23-25, 25-19, 29-27. Altamont won the freshman match, 25-22, 22-25, 25-17.

At St. Anthony

At Mount Zion

Mount Zion hosted Effingham in Apollo Conference action and sent the Hearts home with a 25-19, 25-20 varsity volleyball loss Tuesday.

EHS was led by Alexis Chrappa and Sam Urch with five kills each, Hayley Dively with 12 assists and six digs and Callie Feldhake with two aces. The Hearts drop to 10-9 on the season.

The Braves also claimed the junior varsity match, 25-19, 25-16. Mount Zion downed the Hearts in freshman action, 21-17, 21-14.

At Cowden

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg claimed a National Trail Conference win over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Tuesday, 25-11, 25-4.

"Our confidence was up, we played the net well and we were a team," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte.

Mackinzee Reynolds led the winners in kills with 12, Lexi Domzalski had 15 assists, Anna Schlechte had seven digs and Brianna Hewing had four block assists and two aces.

The Hatchets improve to 5-1 in the conference, 8-7 overall.

CHBC was led by Abby Sloan and Lauren Wojcik with two kills. Wojcik had one ace. Sloan led in assists with three. Zaryah Smith had five digs.

WSS also nabbed the junior varsity match, 25-17, 25-18 and improved to 5-1 in the conference, 9-4 overall. WSS won the freshman contest, 25-8, 25-9, 20-11 and is 5-10.

At Cowden

Newton tallied a victory over Red Hill (Bridgeport) in action Tuesday, 25-4, 25-15.

Hemrich led the Eagles in aces with five and assists with 17. Probst had 10 kills while Geltz had 11 digs. The Eagles improve to 15-3 on the season.

In junior varsity action, Newton was a winner, 25-4, 25-15.

Teutopolis High School improved to 12-10 on the season by downing Dieterich in action Tuesday.

The Wooden Shoes won 25-20, 26-24. Holly Heuerman led the Wooden Shoes with seven digs, three aces and nine points. Ciara Repking had three aces. Erica Michels led in kills with eight. Kelsey Deters had 10 assists.

Gabby Hardiek had 14 kills and five digs for Dieterich. Emily Bloemer led in assists with 16 and had five digs. Allie Poe led in aces with three.

Teutopolis also claimed the junior varsity match, 25-18, 25-20.

Oblong picked up the varsity match win over St. Elmo/Brownstown Tuesday.

Oblong won in two sets, 25-20, 25-20.

SEB was led in kills by Natalie Oberlink with four, blocks with one and points with five. Vayda Smith had two aces. Katelyn Maxey led in digs with 12.

Woodlawn came calling and picked up two victories over host Clay City Tuesday.

Woodlawn won the varsity match, 25-6, 25-16 and also claimed the junior varsity contest, 25-21, 21-25, 15-13.

 

At Toledo

Tri-County defeated Cumberland in two sets Tuesday.

Tri-County was a winner, 25-18, 25-20.
