CHBC Downs St. A, EHS Loses, Area Volleyball Roundup

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City claimed a National Trail Conference volleyball win over Effingham St. Anthony Tuesday evening.
CHBC won the opening set, 25-20 before St. Anthony came back withi a 26-24 victory. CHBC then claimed the match, 25-22.
Kylee Bertin and Tatyana Duckwitz led the Bobcats in kills with six each. Abby Sloan, Zaryah Smith, Lauren Wojcik and Carsen Burks had two aces each. Wojcik led in blocks with three. Sloan had 13 assists. CHBC improves to 5-6-1.
St. Anthony was led by Taylor Ritz with six kills, Elizabeth Kabbes and Kate Hartke with two aces each, Lucy Fearday with two blocks and Kabbes with 13 points.
The Bulldogs won the junior varsity match, 25-22, 25-17 and the freshman/sophomore contest, 25-7, 20-25, 15-8.

Effingham fell to Lincoln in Apollo Conference action Tuesday.
Lincoln won the opener 25-21 before the Hearts came back to take the second set, 25-15. Lincoln then won the match, 25-23. The Hearts drop to 6-5 on the season.
EHS was led by Sam Urch with eight kills and three blocks, Hayley Dively with 23 assists and Alexis Chrappa with 17 digs.
EHS won the junior varsity match, 25-23, 15-25, 15-10 to improve to 5-4.

Teutopolis picked up a victory over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg Tuesday. The Wooden Shoes won in two sets, 25-18, 25-17.
"I saw a lot of good things tonight," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "We started the game on fire but we couldn't hold it. Their outsiders really set the pace and we couldn't shut them down. It's still early in the season. We are also dealing with some injuries so that hurts us"
The Wooden Shoes were led by Kelsey Deters, Carly Michels and Holly Heuerman with five digs each, Erica Michels with nine kills and C. Michels with 10 points. Deters had 19 assists.
Lexi Domzalski had two aces and 12 assists for WSS while Mackinzee Reynolds had eight kills. Anna Schlechte led in digs with eight.
WSS captured the junior varsity match, 25-23, 20-25, 25-19 to improve to 4-1. T-town won the freshman/sophomore match, 25-22, 20-18.

Dieterich nabbed two wins over St. Elmo/Brownstown in National Trail Conference action Tuesday.
The Movin' Maroons lost the opener in varsity play, 25-20 but claimed 25-19, 25-22 sets for the victory.
Emily Hall led in kills with six. Alli Schmidt had 10 assists. Kaitlyn Boerngen led in digs with 23 and had a block. Hall and Hannah Dial also had a block each.
SEB was led by Vayda Smith with five kills and five points and Katelyn Maxey with 13 digs. Maxey and Natalie Oberlink and Makenzie Walk had an ace each.
Dieterich also nabbed the junior varsity contest, 25-20, 25-19.

Altamont downed Neoga in National Trail Conference play, 25-14, 25-7. The Indians are 4-0 in the conference, 11-0 overall.
Jackman led in kills with 12 while McManaway had 23 assists. Mette and Eckhardt had five digs each. Eckhardt finished with two aces.
Neoga was led by Gracie Gresens with five digs, Olivia Titus with two kills, Jaclyn Atwell with two blocks and Ella Shuler with five assists.
Neoga claimed the junior varsity match, 20-25, 25-20, 25-13. Altamont drops to 2-2 in the conference, 9-6 overall.

Newton pulled out a win over Charleston in competition Tuesday.
Charleston won the opener 25-23 but Newton clawed back to take the second set, 25-21 and then the match 26-24.
Probst led in kills with 10 while Hemrich had 20 assists. Kuhl and Ochs had two blocks each. Geltz led in digs with 18. The Eagles improve to 6-3 on the season.
Charleston won the junior varsity match, 25-16, 28-26. Newton took the freshman contest, 25-18, 25-16.

Tayler McMechan led in the assist department with 17 while Ivy Ayers had 25 digs. Allyson Maynard led in aces with two. Madison Hendrix had eight kills. Zoe Mtichell led in blocks with four.
The Eagles lost the junior varsity match, 17-25, 25-23, 15-13 to drop to 5-2.
