ROBINSON -- Effingham St. Anthony High School fell to Robinson in the opening varsity set 25-15 but the Bulldogs got tough and came back to pick up the volleyball victory Thursday.
The Bulldogs took the second set, 26-24 and then finished out the win at 25-14. Ada Rozene and Taylor Ritz led the way in kills with nine and eight respectively. Ritz had four aces. Stella Passalacqua led in blocks with three. Kyra Swearingen had 16 assists. Ritz finished with 14 points.
Robinson claimed the junior varsity match, 25-17, 17-25, 15-13. The Bulldogs won the freshman contest, 25-22, 16-25, 25-20.

At Effingham
Effingham picked up an Apollo Conference win over Mount Zion Thursday.
The Hearts fell in the opener 25-21 but came back strong to win the second set, 25-19 and then the match, 25-18.
Alexis Chrappa tallied 16 kills and had 10 digs for the Hearts. Hayley Dively led in assists with 30. Jacy Boatman had five aces, seven digs and a block. Kennedy Sowell added a block. The Hearts are now 3-0 on the season.
In junior varsity play, Mount Zion was a winner, 25-18, 18-25, 15-11. EHS is 1-2. The Hearts and Braves split freshman contests. Mount Zion won 21-19 and the Hearts claimed a 22-20 victory and stands at 1-1-1.

At Altamont
Altamont handily captured a non-conference victory over Casey-Westfield Thursday.
The Indians won 25-14, 25-5 to improve to 2-0 on the season. Jackman led the winners in kills with 10 and aces with four. McManaway had 20 assists. Pemberton had seven kills and led in digs with four.
Altamont also claimed the junior varsity match, 25-14, 25-9 and is 4-2.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City came up with a victory over Ramsey Thursday.
The Hornets tallied 25-14, 25-10 wins. Leading in kills was Carsen Burks with four. Zaryah Smith had three aces and 14 digs. Kylee Bertin led in assists with six. Jacque Witteborg had 13 digs.
Ramsey claimed the junior varsity match, 19-25, 25-21, 25-20. CHBC was a winner in freshman/sophomore play, 25-14, 25-21.

The Cougars won in two, 25-19, 25-23.
SEB was led by Natalie Oberlink with five kills, two blocks and six points and Katelyn Maxey with 15 digs.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg tallied a varsity win over host Cumberland Thursday.
The Hatchets won 25-20, 25-18 and now stand at 3-0 on the season.
"The team is starting to make some good adjustments to their game," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "We are improving every night. Cumberland gave us a good game. They really made us work hard."
Leading the winners were Brianna Hewing and Jessica Rauch with two aces each, Mackinzee Reynolds. with nine kills, Hannah Hayes with 10 assists and Anna Schlechte with 14 digs.
Cumberland was led by Carly Thornton with four assists, Madison Hendrix and Zoe Mitchell with three kills each. Hendrix with three blocks and Tayler McMechan with seven digs.

Clay City/North Clay picked up a varsity victory over Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran Thursday.
CC/NC lost the opener 25-23 before coming back with 25-20, 25-20 scores for the win. Malorie Craig had 11 kills.
"Malorie had some outstanding hits," said CC/NC Coach Tiffany Kuenstler. "Gracie Warren and Taylor Pittman had some outstanding blocks and hits. Elaine Kessler was great at setting and working at the net. Our top server was Gracie Warren."
At Flora
North Clay (Louisville) traveled to Flora and fell to the Wolves in both varsity and junior varsity action Thursday.
Flora captured the varsity contest, 25-22, 28-26. The Wolves took the junior varsity match, 25-19, 25-20.
