Bullpups Finish Fourth at Eighth-Grade VB State

AUBURN -- Effingham St. Anthony captured fourth place at the Class 8-2A State Volleyball Tournament during the weekend.

The Bullpups opened with a three-set victory over Peoria Heights St. Thomas. St. Thomas claimed the first set, 25-16. St. Anthony came back with 25-23 and 25-21 wins for the match.

In other first round matches, Mendon Unity downed Lexington, 25-16, 25-21; Mount Pulaski won ovr Raymond Lincolnwood, 27-25, 25-17 and Kewanee Wethersfield downed Gardner, 25-23, 25-13.

In the semifinals, St. Anthony fell to Kewanee Wethersfield, 25-14, 25-21. In the other match, Mount Pulaski won over Mendon Unity, 25-22, 19-25, 25-21.

In the third place contest, Mendon Unity had to go three sets to beat the Bullpups.

St. Anthony won the opener, 25-16 but Mendon Unity came back with 25-7, 25-12 scores for the match.

In the championshp match, Mount Pulaski downed Kewanee Wethersfield, 25-15, 19-25, 25-15.

St. Anthony finished the season with an 18-10 record and a fourth place finish.
