Effingham saw its season come to a close in the Class 8-4A Effingham Volleyball Regional Saturday.

In the opening match, Mattoon downed Stephen Decatur, 25-18, 14-25, 25-10.

Charleston then won over Decatur Jefferson, 25-5, 25-8.

Top-seeded Effingham took on Mattoon, seeded fourth. Mattoon won the opener 25-18. Effingham came back with a 25-14 count. The Green Wave then won the match, 25-20.

Mount Zion, seeded second, downed third-seeded Charleston. Mount Zion won the opener 25-21 but Charleston came back with a 25-19 count. Mount Zion then claimed the match, 25-16.

Mattoon and Mount Zion now meet for the regional championship at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Class 8-4A Effingham Regional

Effingham -- Niebrugge, 1 assist, 10 digs; Hefner, 15 assists, 3 digs; Frost, 3 kills, 1 ace, 2 digs; Waymoth, 2 digs; Davis, 1 kill, 3 assists, 1 ace, 3 digs; Allie, 12 kills, 2 blocks, 5 aces; Jiang, 6 kills, 2 aces, 6 digs; R. Cunningham, 2 kills, 5 aces, 3 digs; A. Cunningham, 1 dig

 

Class 7-2A Oblong Regional

North Clay (Louisville) is still alive in the Oblong Regional after a victory Saturday.

North Clay, seeded third, downed sixth-seeded Dieterich, 25-16, 25-17.

In the opening contest, Hutsonville won over Oblong, 25-7, 11-25, 25-17.

Hutsonville now meets South Central at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday while North Clay takes on Edwards County (Albion) at 5:30.

Class 8-2A Oblong Regional

Dieterich -- Niemerg, 5 assists, 1 dig; Gephart, 2 kills, 1 assist, 1 ace; Dial, 3 kills, 1 assist, 1 ace; Larson, 1 ace, 1 dig; Shull, 1 kill, 1 dig; Esker, 5 kills, 3 aces, 1 dig; Kinnison, 1 kill, 1 assist, 2 blocks

 

Clss 8-3A Marshall Regional

Jasper County fell in the opening contest at the Marshall Regional Saturday.

Lawrenceville Parkview was the winner over Jasper County. Parkview claimed the opener 25-21 but Jasper County came back with a 25-11 tally. Parkview then won the match 28-26.

Jasper County ends the season at 8-14.

In the second contest, Robinson Nuttall downed Paris Mayo, 25-15, 25-19.

Lawrenceville Parkview faces Marshall at 6 p.m. followed by Casey-Westfield against Robinson Nuttall at 7:15 Tuesday.

Class 8-3A Marshall Regional

Jasper County -- Kocher, 4 aces, 7 assists; Shull, 4 aces, 10 kills, 1 dig; Kirts, 1 ace, 5 digs; Buerster, 1 ace; Oldham, 1 ace; Hetzer, 4 kills; Dhom, 2 kills; Utley, 2 kills; Whitaker, 6 assists

 

Class 8-3A Tuscola East Prairie Regional

Teutopolis moved into the semifinals with a victory at the Tuscola East Prairie Regional Saturday.

T-town opened the day with a 25-18, 25-17 win over Arthur, seeded fifth. The fourth-seeded Wooden Shoes improved to 12-11.

In the second match, second-seeded Cumberland downed seventh-seeded Sullivan, 25-5, 25-12.

In the final match of the day, sixth-seeded St. Elmo/Brownstown upset host Tuscola East Prairie, seeded third, 25-20, 27-25.

In the semifinals, Teutopolis faces top-seeded Shelbyville Moulton at 6 p.m. Tuesday followed by Cumberland taking on St. Elmo/Brownstown at 7:15.

Class 8-3A Tuscola East Prairie

Teutopolis -- Swingler, 2 aces, 3 assists, 1 dig; Konkel, 1 ace, 4 kills, 1 block; Drees, 2 aces, 2 assists, 4 kills; Kremer, 1 ace, 2 kills; Miller, 1 kill; Gibson, 2 aces, 2 kills; Deters, 2 aces, 4 digs; Huber, 1 assist, 2 kills, 1 dig, 1 block

 

Class 8-1A Sigel St. Michael Regional

Four matches were contested at the Sigel St. Michael Regional Saturday.

In the opener, fifth-seeded Martinsville downed fourth-seeded Effingham Sacred Heart, 25-13, 25-18.

Third-seeded Sigel St. Michael won over sixth-seeded Newton St. Thomas, 25-10, 25-10.

Top-seeded West Salem then downed Martinsville, 25-7, 25-15.

Sigel St. Michael upset second-seeded Grayville, 25-6, 25-13.

West Salem will face St. Michael at 6 p.m. Tuesday for the regional championship.

 

Class 8-2A Chrisman Scottland Regional

Mattoon St. John's won over host Chrisman Scottland in the opening match, 25-20, 25-20. St. John's is seeded fifth while Chrisman Scottland is seeded fourth.

In the second match, Findlay Okaw Valley ended Windsor's season with a 25-5, 25-16 victory.

The final match of the day went to sixth-seeded Oakland Lake Crest who upset third-seeded Stewardson-Strasburg. Oakland won 25-17 before Stew-Stras tied the match with a 25-18 count. Chrisman then won the match, 25-23.

Hume Shiloh, seeded No. 1, will face Mattoon St. John's at 6 p.m. Tuesday followed by Findlay Okaw Valley against Oakland Lake Crest at 6:45 p.m.

 

Class 8-2A Paris Crestwood Regional

This regional opens play Tuesday. Altamont takes on Arcola at 6 p.m. followed by Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City against Neoga at 7.

The winners advance to meet Effingham St. Anthony and Paris Crestwood Wednesday.
