Junior High School Volleyball -- Feb. 21

Effingham St. Anthony claimed two victories over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City in junior high volleyball action Thursday.

The Bullpups claimed the seventh-grade match, 25-10, 25-19. St. Anthony now heads to its own Class 7-2A Regional.  The regional opens Saturday but the Bullpups won't play until Monday against the winner of the Altamont vs. Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City match.

In eighth-grade competition, St. Anthony won 25-14, 25-19.

Effingham played host to Cumberland and sent the visitors home with two losses Thursday.

The Mustangs won the seventh-grade match. Cumberland took the opener 25-21 but Effingham came back to win 25-20, 26-24 and improve to 14-6.

In eighth-grade play, Effingham was a winner in two sets, 25-18, 25-13 and now stands at 19-2.

Effingham will be back in action Saturday hosting the Class 7-4A Regional. The Mustangs will face the winner of the opening match, Stephen Decatur or Mattoon at 12:30 p.m.

Teutopolis picked up two wins over Newton St. Thomas Thursday.

The Wooden Shoes won the seventh-grade match after losing the opening set, 25-15. T-town came back with 25-21, 25-22 scores to improve to 14-7. The seventh-graders head into Class 7-3A St.Elmo/Brownstown Regional action Monday at 7:30 p.m. against Tuscola East Prairie.

In eighth-grade action, T-town was a winner 25-10, 25-11 and now stands at 11-10.
