Schlechtes Selected Coach, Player of Year

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg's Ronda Schlechte and daughter Megan Schlechte were named Coach of the Year and Player of the Year respectively by the Decatur Herald & Review.

 

Ronda Schlechte's Hatchets finished this past season with a 32-7 record falling to Decatur St. Teresa in the sectional final. She has guided teams to a third place finish in the state in 2016 and second place in 2017.

Megan Schlechte, an outside hitter, finished this past season with 495 kills giving her 1,599 for her career which makes her ninth all-time in kills in IHSA history. She had a hitting percentage of .387. She had a 29 kill performance in last year's state semifinal against Durand which is a state record.

This year she had a season high 21 kills in the final match. She will continue her career in college next season at Lewis University in Romeoville where she will study nursing.

M. Schlechte, a senior, was named to the Decatur Herald & Review All-Area First Team along with outside hitter Taylor Powell (senior, Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond), outside hitter Shania Schoonover (senior, Pana), outside hitter Abigail Fitzpatrick (senior, Mount Pulaski), middle back Liz Curtin (senior, Taylorville), setter Courtney Coy (senior, Taylorville) and libero Reagan Morrison (senior, Taylorville).

Second Team members were outside libero Carson Cole (senior, Windsor/Stew-Stras), setter Savannah Grimes (senior, Teutopolis), outside hitter Kaylee Holland (senior, Pana), outside hitter Lauren Russell (senior, Shelbyville), middle back Kate Jeffers (junior, Okaw Valley), libero Natalie Bates (Tuscola) and setter Summerlyn Smith (Mattoon).

Third Team members were outside hitter Erica Michels (junior, Teutopolis), setter Mackenzi Tabbert (senior, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg), libero Kelsi Geltz (junior, Newton), outside hitter Allie Dunn (senior, Central A&M), middle back (Brooklyn Edwards (senior, Mattoon), middle back (Elizabeth Boyer (senior, Shelbyville) and setter Maddie Ashcraft (senior, Pana).

Honorable Mention went to area players Ali Bierman (Newton), Natalie Carie (Effingham), Ally Easton (Neoga), Julie Frey (Teutopolis), Sydney Gibson (Effingham St. Anthony), Katie Grimsley (Altamont), Mary Hill (Neoga), Rachel Jackman (Altamont), Katie Kabbes (Effingham St. Anthony), Rebecca Kuhns (Altamont), Katelyn Maxey (St. Elmo/Brownstown), Tinley Mette (Altamont), Carly Michels (Teutopolis), Marlee Nolan (St. Elmo/Brownstown), Mackenzie Potter (South Central), Mackinzee Reynolds (Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg), Megan Richards (Effingham St. Anthony), MacKenzie Rinehart (North Clay, Louisville), Maddi Hemrich (Newton), Renee Probst (Newton), Katie Volk (Teutopolis) and Lauren Wojcik (Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City).
