WSS Falls In Sectional Championship

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg saw a return to the Class 1A State Tournament go by the wayside with a loss in the championship match of the Effingham St. Anthony Volleyball Sectional Wednesday evening.

Decatur St. Teresa won the opener 25-13 but the Hatchets came back with a 27-25 second contest to force a third set. St. Teresa then tallied a 25-14 victory for the match.

"I'm very sad to see this season end so early," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "This group of seniors have accomplished so much in their four years as a Hatchet. They will be missed by all. We want to thank the fan turnout tonight and all season. You guys are terrific.

"I love this team and what they represent and I am so very proud of each one of them."

The Hatchets were led b in assists by Mackenzi Tabbert with 29 and she also led in digs with nine, in aces with three and had  two block assists. Megan Schlechte tallied a whopping 21 kills in the match and had two blocks. Carson Cole had nine digs.

Windsor/Stew-Stras ends the season with a 32-7 record.

Decatur St. Teresa advances to the Nokomis Super-Sectional and will face Jacksonville Rout Friday at 7 p.m.

Class 1A St. Anthony Sectional

Class 2A Cumberland Regional

Fairfield claimed the championshp of the Cumberland Sectional but had to fight hard against Pana Wednesday.

Fairfield won the opener 25-23 but Pana came back with a 25-19 victory. The third set went to Fairfield, 30-28.

Fairfield advances to the McLeansboro Hamilton County Super-Sectional and will meet Nashville at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

 

Class 3A Springfield Sacred Heart Griffin Sectional

Mount Zion pulled out a victory over Taylorville Wednesday evening. The Tornadoes captured the opening set, 25-18.

But here came the Braves. Mount Zion won 25-15 and then claimed the match, 25-23.

Mount Zion advances to meet Belleville Althoff Catholic at 7 p.m. Friday in the Bethalto Civic Memorial Super-Sectional.
