CHBC, Neoga, C'land Open Volleyball Regionals With Wins

DIETERICH -- Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City handed Dieterich an opening round loss in the Class 1A Dieterich Volleyball Regional Monday.
CHBC won in two sets, 25-19, 25-8. Allie Stell led the way in kills with eight while Lauren Wojcik had four aces. Katlyn Johnson led in assists with 11. Zaryah Smith had eight digs.
Dieterich was led by Emily Bloemer in kills with two, Jenny Robards in assists with three, Molly Niemerg in digs with eight and Gabi Hardiek in blocks with two.
In the opening contest, Ramsey downed Oblong in three sets. Oblong won the opener 25-23 but Ramsey came back with 25-17, 25-22 counts for the match.
Tonight's contests will feature top-seeded Altamont against Ramsey at 5:30 and fourth-seeded Effingham St. Anthony taking on Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City at 6:30. The winners will advance to the championship match Thursday.

Class 1A North Clay (Louisville) Regional
Clay City downed South Central in the opening match of the North Clay Regional Monday.
The Cougars won the opener 25-21 but Clay City came back with 25-22, 25-21 scores for the match.
South Central was led by Mackenzie Potter with 10 points, Halle Smith with nine kills, four digs and three aces and Lauren Lotz with 10 assists. The Cougars finish the season with a 10-20 record.
Clay City will now advance to meet Cisne at 5:30 p.m. today.
Class 1A North Clay Regional

Class 1A Hutsonville/Palestine Regional
Neoga handed Hutsonville/Palestine a loss in opening round play at the Hutsonville/Palestine Regional Monday.
The Indians opened with a 25-15 count but H/P came back with a 26-24 victory. Neoga then went out at 25-20 for the match.
Mary Hill had 12 digs and 20 kills while Olivia Titus had 13 digs, 10 kills and 12 assists. Aly Easton had 18 assists anad three aces.
Neoga advances to face top-seeded Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg at 5:30 p.m. today followed by Bethany Okaw Valley against Martinsville at 6:30.
Class 1A Hutsonville/Palestine Regional
Neoga -- Hill, 12 digs, 20 kills; Titus, 13 digs, 10 kills, 2 aces, 12 assists; Meadows, 8 digs; Easton, 18 assists, 4 kills, 3 aces, 1 block; Atwell, 1 block; Gentry, 3 kills
Class 1A Marshall Regional
Cumberland moved into tonight's action by upsetting Marshall in competition Monday at the Marshall Regional.
The Pirates, seeded ninth, fell in the opener to seventh-seeded Marshall, 25-10 but came back with 25-18, 25-13 victories for the match.
Mackenzie Taylor led the winners in digs with 17. Maddie Hendrix and Carly Thornton had five kills each. Tayler McMechan had 11 assists. Ivy Ayers had 15 digs.
In the second match, Robinson downed Casey-Westfield, 25-23, 25-20.
Cumberland advances to face top-seeded Teutopolis today at 5:30 p.m. followed by Kansas Co-op taking on Robinson at 6:30.
Class 2A Marshall Regional

Class 2A Pana Regional
Vandalia opened the Pana Regional with a win over Sullivan. The Vandals won in two sets, 25-12, 25-22.
Vandalia will now meet No. 2 Pana at 5:30 p.m. today followed by No. 3 Newton against Shelbyville at 6:30.
Class 3A Effingham Regional
Troy Triad opened with a victory over Charleston at the Effingham Regional Monday.
Triad, seeded No. 7, won the opener 25-17 but Charleston came back with a 25-21 win. Triad then claimed the match, 25-12.
Triad advances to face No. 2 Mattoon today at 5:30 p.m. followed by No. 5 Effingham against No. 3 Paris at 6:30.
