Effingham St. Anthony High School went two sets to beat North Clay (Louisville) in volleyball competition Thursday evening.

The Bulldogs won 25-21, 25-14. Meg Richards led in kills with 12. Katie Kabbes had three aces and scored 11 points. Anna Jones also had 11 points. Abby Stock led the team in assists with 26.

St. Anthony also nabbed the junior varsity match, 23-25, 25-19, 25-17.

The Bulldogs will be competing in the Class 1A Dieterich Regional Tuesday. The Bulldogs take on the winner of the Ramsey vs. Oblong match at 6:30 p.m.

At St. Anthony

At Newton

Newton downed Paris, 25-14, 13-25, 26-24 and captured the regular season championship of the Little Illini Conference.

The Eagles finished the LIC season with a perfect 8-0 record and now stand at 25-9 overall heading into regional action Tuesday at Pana against Shelbyville.

Meinhart led the way in aces with four and digs with 15. Probst had 13 kills while Hemrich led in assists with 27 and Kuhl had five blocks.

The Eagles also claimed the junior varsity match, 25-13, 25-10.

At Newton

At St. Elmo

Patoka captured the championship of the Egyptian-Illini Conference Tournament Thursday.

Patoka opened the evening with a 25-12, 25-23 win over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City.

St. Elmo/Brownstown then defeated CHBC, 25-20, 25-17.

Patoka ended up downing SEB but the match went three sets. The Eagles won the opener 25-22 but Patoka came back to pull out a 26-24 win then took the final set 25-22.

Patoka finished the champion with a 4-0 record followed by St. Elmo/Brownstown 3-1, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 2-2 and Ramsey 1-3.

CHBC will compete in the Class 1A Dieterich Regional Monday against Dieterich at 6:30 p.m. SEB will face North Clay (Louisville) Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Class 1A North Clay Regional.

At Farina

Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran handed South Central a loss Thursday.

CORL won the opener 25-23 but the Cougars tallied a 25-22 victory. CORL then took the match, 25-15.

Leading South Central were Madison Magnus with 10 points and two aces, Lauren Lutz with 12 assists, Mackenzie Potter with seven kills, Kelsey Landreth with two aces and Mady Kollmon with three digs.

South Central won the junior varsity match, 25-21, 25-20 and the freshman/sophomore contest, 25-10, 25-13.

The Cougars will be back in action Monday in regional play at North Clay (Louisville).

At Martinsville

Cumberland claimed a Little Okaw Valley Conference Southeast Division match in two sets over Martinsville Thursday.

The Pirates won 25-14, 25-20. Tayler McMechan had 14 assists while Danae Sowers led in kills with nine and had 20 digs.

Cumberland improves to 17-13 on the season and will be back in action Monday in the Class 2A Marshall Regional against host Marshall.

Hutsonville/Palestine handed Dieterich a varsity loss. Dieterich won the opener 25-20 but H/P came back with 25-19, 25-16 counts for the win.

Dieterich was led by Gabi Hardiek with nine kills, Jenny Robards with nine assists, Allie Poe with six aces and four digs and Iva Lilly with three blocks.

The Movin' Maroons won the junior varsity match, 25-19, 8-25, 25-14.
