SEB, CHBC Nab Two Wins at EIC, Volleyball Roundup

ST. ELMO -- St. Elmo/Brownstown and Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City picked up two victories each in the Egyptian-Illini Conference Volleyball Tournament Tuesday.
St. Elmo/Brownstown opened the evening with a 25-17, 25-23 win over Ramsey. Leading the Eagles were Teagen Christensen with six kills and six points, Marlee Nolen with eight kills and eight points, Vayda Smith with seven digs, Kayla Curry with 10 assists and Katelyn Murray with six digs.
The Eagles also downed Mulberry Grove, 25-22, 25-18. Christensen led in kills with five. Cripe tallied six points. Maxey led in digs with eight. Kayla Curry had 12 assists.
Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City won over Ramsey, 25-17, 25-11 and Mulberry Grove, 25-8, 25-13.
CHBC was led by Allie Stell with seven kills, Lauren Wojcik and Zaryah Smith with four aces each. Katlyn Johnson had six assists. Hailey Persinger and Smith had six digs each.
CHBC and SEB have 4-0 records followed by Patoka 2-0, Ramsey 1-3 and Mulberry Grove 0-4. The tourney ends Thursday with CHBC against Patoka at 6 p.m., SEB taking on CHBC at 7 and Patoka against SEB at 8.

At Mattoon
Effingham traveled to Mattoon and dropped an Apollo Conference match Tuesday.
The Green Wave won in two, 25-22, 25-13.
EHS was led by Natalie Carie with nine kills, Carsyn Fearday with 17 assists and Miranda Fox with 12 digs.
Mattoon also nabbed the junior varsity match, 23-25, 25-21, 15-8. EHS drops to 12-6. The Green Wave also took the freshman/sophomore contest, 22-20, 20-22, 15-13.

At Strasburg
Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg tallied a 25-13, 25-8 win over Tuscola in a non-conference matchup Tuesday.
"Tonight we celebrated our seniors last time on home court," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "We had a few new faces on the floor tonight so it took a little bit to find our game but they did. This gave our bench some experience which will help in post-season if needed."
Megan Schlechte had a big night with nine aces, eight kills and six digs. Carson Cole led in the dig category with 14. Mackinzee Reynolds also had eight kills. Hannah Hayes led in assists with 18. The Hatchets are now 26-4 on the season.
WSS tallied a 25-11, 20-25, 26-24 win over Tuscola in junior varsity play to improve to 14-5.
The freshman/sophomore contest went to WSS, 25-22, 25-21.

At Robinson
Teutopolis handed Robinson a varsity loss in action Tuesday.
The Wooden Shoes won the varsity match, 25-18, 25-12. Katelyn Jansen led the Shoes in digs with 11. Erica Michels had 10 kills. Savannah Grimes led in points with 15 and assists with 16. The Shoes finished the regular season with a 24-8 record.
"We got off to an awful start in set one," said T-town Coach Tim Mills. "Our passing was really bad and we staked Robinson to an eight point lead. The girls never panicked. They just went to work whittling the lead down a couple points at a time until they took the lead. After Robinson scored the eighth point, we outscored them 25-10 the rest of set one.
"Set two was the complete opposite. Savannah served us out to an eight point lead and we coasted to a 25-12 victory. The win is our 24th of the season and matches last year's win total, and is the most wins in a season for a Teutopolis volleyball team.
"We are the No. 1 seed in the Marshall Regional. We play the winner of Monday's match between Marshall and Cumberland Tuesday night at 5:30. Kansas is the No. 4 seed. They play the winner of the Robinson and Casey-Westfield match Tuesday night at 6:30. The winners of Tuesday's matches meet at 6 Thursday night."
T-town fell in the junior varsity match, 23-25, 25-18, 15-12 but won the freshman contest, 25-14, 25-23.

Olney claimed a non-conference victory over South Central Tuesday evening.
The Tigers won 25-15, 25-12. South Central was led by Mady Kollmon with five points, Mackenzie Potter and Halle Smith with two kills each and Lauren Lutz and Madison Magnus with two assists each.
Olney won the junior varsity match, 25-9, 25-17 and a freshman/sophomore contest, 17-25, 25-15, 15-7.
