Bulldogs Beat Olney, T-town, Newton Win in Volleyball

Effingham St. Anthony handed visiting Olney a loss in high school volleyball competition Monday.
The Bulldogs won the opener 25-12 but Olney came back with a 25-18 win. St. Anthony then took the match with a 25-18 count.
Meg Richards led the Bulldogs in kills with 14. Abby Stock had three aces and 29 assists. Anna Jones and Sydney Gibson scored nine points each.
St. Anthony also claimed the junior varsity match, 25-20, 25-22 and split a freshman contest, 25-19, 15-25.

At Teutopolis
Teutopolis defeated Cumberland in two sets, 25-10, 25-20 to improve to 23-8 on the season during Senior Night festivities.
"The first set was very one-sided," said T-town Coach Tim Mills. "Our offense was clicking on all cylnders. Everything worked like it was supposed to. And we won by a wide margin. Set two was a little different. We did some senior night things, putting players in positions they don't normally play. And Cumberland stepped up its game so it was pretty competitive for the whole set. It is our 23rd win of the season. We finish the regular season Tuesday night at Robinson."
Savannah Grimes led the Wooden Shoes in digs with seven, assists with nine, points with 11 and had five kills. Erica Michels also had five kills.
T-town also won the junior varsity match, 25-21, 2-25, 15-18.

Newton pushed its record to 24-9 on the season with a victory over Dieterich Monday evening.
The Eagles won 25-6, 25-6. Probst led the way in aces with four and kills with six. Hemrich had 12 assists. Bierman led in blocks with five. Geltz had four digs.

Newton also nabbed the junior varsity match, 25-12, 25-16.

Paris picked up a victory over Neoga in action Monday.
The Tigers won 25-15, 25-20.

The Egyptian-Illini Conference Tournament opened play at St. Elmo High School Monday.
In the first match, Patoka downed Ramsey, 25-10, 25-14 then won over Mulberry Grove, 25-14, 25-9. Ramsey claimed a win over Mulberry Grove, 25-11, 25-21.
Tonight's matches feature St. Elmo/Brownstown against Ramsey at 5, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City facing Ramsey at 6, SEB taking on Mulberry Grove at 7 and CHBC facing Mulberry Grove at 8.
