WSS Beats St. A, Area Volleyball Roundup

STEWARDSON -- Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg picked up a National Trail Conference victory over Effingham St. Anthony in volleyball competition Tuesday.
The Hatchets won in two sets, 25-13, 25-15 to improve to 8-0 in the conference, 15-3 overall.
"The team came out tonight ready to play," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "Serving was strong and we had some really hard hits. St. Anthony put up a good fight despite having a few out with injuries. They had a couple hot servers that challegened us and they had some very nice digs. They put up a good match as we prepare for this weekend."
The Hatchets will be competing in the Pana Tournament Saturday.
Leading the winners were Megan Schlechte with 15 kills, Anna Schlechte with three aces, Mackenzi Tabbert with 20 assists and Caron Cole with seven digs.
Leading the Bulldogs were Katie Kabbes with three kills, Abby Stock with eight assists and four points and Sophie Moore with a block.
WSS also claimed the junior varsity match, 25-18, 25-15 and a freshman contest, 25-12, 25-12, 18-16.

Teutopolis pushed its record to 18-6 on the season with a win over Vandalia, 25-14, 25-15 Tuesday.
Carly Michels led in digs with 12 while Erica Michels had 10 kills. Savannah Grimes scored 14 points and had nine assists.
"We had a pretty solid night all around," said T-town Coach Tim Mills. "We've changed our defense and we're still working on positioning. It proved to be pretty effective against the Vandlia offense. Erica and Carly were unstoppable. They had 17 kills between them."
T-town also won the junior varsity match, 25-16, 22-25, 15-8 and the freshman match, 13-21, 21-17, 15-10.

Altamont picked up a National Trail Conference win over St. Elmo/Brownstown Tuesday. The Indians won 25-12, 25-15.
Altamont was led by Grimsley with 14 digs, Kuhns with 14 assists, Mette with five aces and Simmons with six kills.
The Indians are now 5-2 in the conference, 14-7 overall.
Teagan Christensen led BSE in kills with three and points with three. Katelyn Maxey had nine digs.
Altamont won the junior varsity match, 25-9, 25-19.

South Central claimed a non-conference victory over Sandoval Tuesday, 25-9, 25-10. The win gives the Cougars a 6-16 record.
Mady Kollmon led in points with 24 and aces with four for the winners. Mackenzie Potter had nine kills. Lauren Lutz led in assists with 10.
South Central also won the junior varsity match, 25-14, 25-20.

Newton tallied a 25-11, 25-18 win over Flora in Little Illini Conference action Tuesday.
The Eagles were led by Probst with four aces and 10 kills, Hemrich with 20 assists, Bierman and Jansen with three blocks each and Geltz with nine digs.
Newton improves to 5-0 in the conference, 15-4 overall.
Newton won the junior varsity match, 25-17, 25-16 and a freshman contest, 25-19, 25-10.
