Effingham St. Anthony High School handed Patoka a loss in volleyball competition Thursday, 25-14, 25-19.

Meg Richards led the Bulldogs in kills with 11. Abby Stock, Katie Kabbes and Ada Rozene had two aces each. Stock led in assists with 20. Kabbes led in scoring with 11 points.

The Bulldogs also nabbed a junior varsity contest, 25-21, 25-18.

At St. Anthony

St. Anthony -- Jones, 2 kills, 4 points; Moore, 2 kills; Stock, 3 kills, 2 aces, 20 assists, 4 points; Kabbes, 8 kills, 2 aces, 11 points; Rozene, 4 kills, 2 aces, 3 points; Richards, 11 kills, 1 block, 5 points; Poston, 3 points

 

At Effingham

Effingham picked up a two-set victory over Mattoon Thursday. The Hearts won 25-16, 25-23 and now stands at 10-9 on the season.

Natalie Carie led the Hearts in kills with 14. Carsyn Fearday had 22 assists. Kiyah Kuhlman led in blocks with three. Miranda  Fox had 11 digs.

The Hearts also nabbed the junior varsity match win, 25-17, 25-18 and is 10-2.

Effingham and Mattoon split victories in freshman/sophomore play. Mattoon won the opener 21-17 but the Hearts took a 21-11 second win and is 2-6-1 on the season.

North Clay (Louisville) claimed a National Trail Conference win over South Central  Thursday.

The Cardinals won 25-19, 25-23. South Central drops to 1-5 in the conference, 4-13 overall.

The Cougars were led in points by Mackenzie Potter with six and aces with two. Kelsey Landreth had five kills. Halle Smith led in digs with four and Lauren Lutz had five assists.

North Clay also nabbed the junior varsity contest, 25-13, 25-22. South Central falls to 2-7.

At Louisville

At Lawrenceville

Newton improved to 11-4 on the season with a victory over Lawrenceville Thursday.

The Eagles lost the opener 25-23 but came back to take 25-15, 25-22 wins. Probst led in kills with nine and aces with three. Hemrich had 18 assists. Geltz led in digs with 11. Bierman and Chapman had two blocks each.

The Eagles will travel to Salem Monday for Pink Out Night.

At Lawrenceville

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City was a winner in both varsity and junior varsity action Thursday.

CHBC won the varsity contest 25-18, 25-23 to improve to 8-7. Jacque Witteborg led in digs with 12 while Paeton Underwood had seven assists. Allie Stell led in kills with eight. Lauren Wojcik had four aces.

CHBC won the junior varsity match, 25-15, 25-12.

At Mulberry Grove

At Neoga

St. Elmo/Brownstown pulled out a National Trail Conference win over Neoga in three sets.

Neoga won the opener 25-10 but SEB came back with 25-14, 25-14 victories for the match. Marlee Nolan led in kills with seven and aces with two. Kaylie Curry had 11 assists. Macy Cripe led in digs with 10 and had nine points.

Dieterich fell to Clay City in volleyball action Thursday.

Clay City won the varsity match 25-14, 25-18. Leading Dieterich were Emily Bloemer and Lexi Russell in digs with three each, Bloemer and Jenny Robards with two assists each and Allie Poe, Gabi Hardiek, Alexis Lucy, Bloemer, Robards and Russell had a kill each.

Clay City won the junior varsity contest, 25-20, 25-18.
