EHS Takes Silver Championship, Volleyball Scores

CHARLESTON -- Effingham High School captured the Silver championship at the Charleston Volleyball Invitational Saturday.
The Hearts downed Meridian 25-9, 25-18 and Urbana 25-17, 25-23 in pool play then fell to Carbondale 25-21, 25-19.
In the Silver bracket, the Hearts beat Argenta-Oreana 25-15, 25-18 and Urbana 25-19, 25-15 to win.
Teutopolis competed in the tournament and downed Decatur MacArthur, 25-13, 25-21, Lawrenceville 25-11, 25-10 and Mattoon 18-25, 25-21, 15-12.
The Wooden Shoes then fell to Carbondale, 25-13, 25-20 and Charleston 25-14, 25-21 to finish fourth in the Gold bracket.
"We dominated the pool play, winning all three matches and handing Mattoon its second defeat of the season," said T-town Coach Tim MIlls. "But we seemed to hit a wall after that. The girls ate and had an hour break and came out flat for the bracket play. Erica Michels was selected All-Tournament."
T-town is now 13-6 on the season.

Pana claimed the title of the Effingham St. Anthony Invitational Tournament Saturday.
In opening round play, Newton downed Mulberry Grove, 25-10, 25-8, St. Anthony beat Sullivan, 25-10, 25-7, Tri-County won over Pana, 21-25, 31-29, 15-11; Shelbyville downed Okaw Valley, 25-19, 25-17; Newton won over Tri-County, 27-29, 26-24, 15-7; Okaw Valley beat Sullivan, 25-15, 25-16; Pana claimed a 25-7, 25-10 win over Mulberry Grove; Shelbyville handed St. Anthony a 25-11, 25-10 loss; Pana downed Newton, 25-18, 25-23; Okaw Valley beat St. Anthony, 23-25, 25-17, 16-14; Tri-County won over Mulberry Grove, 25-10, 25-19 and Shelbyville beat Sullivan, 25-12, 25-8.

Cerro Gordo won the championship of the Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg Invitational Junior Varsity Tournament Saturday.
In Pool A, WSS beat Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond, 23-25, 25-23, 15-6. ALAH came back to beat Okaw Valley, 25-16, 25-19 and WSS downed Okaw Valley, 25-15, 25-23.
In Pool B, Cerro Gordo beat Neoga, 25-19, 25-8 and won over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 25-20, 25-7. CHBC then downed Neoga, 17-25, 25-23, 15-11.
In the champoinship match, Cerro Gordo won over WSS, 25-21, 25-17.

Dieterich claimed a junior varsity win but fell in varsity action against Martinsville.
In the varsity contest, Martinsville won 17-25, 26-24, 25-10. Dieterich drops to 1-13. Jenny Robards led in kills with eight while Emilyi Bloemer led in assists with 12 and Allie Poe led in digs with 15. Bloemer had three aces.
In the junior varsity match, Dieterich lost the opener 25-16 but came back with 28-26, 25-18 counts to improve to 2-7.
